Hi - I have a few basic questions about the "Add Waveform" feature on the MODX.   I'm fluent in the basic procedures so no issues there.  But - -

1. When loading my own waveform from an attached USB:

              a.  Must it be a .wav form (16 bit / 44.khz) ?

              b.  Can it be either mono or stereo?

               c.  What is the maximum file size ? - - or more importantly

               d.  How long (in seconds) can the sample be?

              e.  If the answer to "b" is yes, can I load a larger "mono" file than "stereo"

Thanks - Pete Radd

wav/aiff, 16/24 bit, 44k only, either mono or stereo

The above are the basic answers but there is one important thing to clarify: do you want to 1) 'play' an audio file or 2) use an audio file to create ONE bank in a user waveform that can contain up to 256 banks?

A Modx 'waveform' is a collection of 1-256 audio samples. Each sample, which can be mono or stereo, is used to create ONE 'key bank' and is configured for a specific key range and a specific velocity range.

So if you create a new user waveform but only load one sample that sample will be used for every key in the key range you specify and for the velocities you specify. Any key or velocity outside that range won't produce a sound.

The sample length will depend on how much user memory you have available. It can range from 1 second to several minutes depending on how complex the audio is.

The user waveform gets stored in user memory so if your user memory is nearly full it won't support very long samples.

One technique people use is to create a new drum part and only use 2 keys - perhaps the two lowest keys on the keyboard. One key is used to start playing the sample and the other key is used to stop playing it.

Bad Mister provides the details and an example here:

Info about waveform and keybank layout is on p. 109 of the Modx Reference doc.

If you need more help please provide more info about what it is you are wanting to do.
