There isn't anything you can do to a merged Performance using the local keyboard and no external cables or keyboards or USB connections that would cause MODX to lockup as you've described.
If you play the same aggressive stuff on a MIDI-connected keyboard and it doesn't reproduce - chances are it's a problem with your keyboard and marginal components/connections/etc. Likewise, if something connected USB playing something aggressive (probably even more aggressive in terms of note density) - being sure that all channels have duplicate notes (same MIDI on/off messages for each channel) -- and the issue doesn't reproduce - then chances are there's something up with your keyboard.
I can't discount that you're new to the instrument - and maybe you are not able to articulate just what you've done. And maybe you've done something completely invalid like "stick a sandwich in the CD drive". But outside of something really bizarre - you just should not be able to readily reproduce lockups. Environmentals I'm assuming are somewhere close to room temperature (not extreme heat, cold, humidity, etc). I'm not sure how your playing could be much more "aggressive" than the musicians who have demonstrated MODX.

If it indeed was something with marginal components, etc.,wouldn’t I have experienced this with other (even more complex) performances? I can play for extended lengths of time in the same ‘aggressive’ manner without encountering this problem. The issue came up within a *minute* of playing with the performance in question. BTW, I’ve since recreated the performance and so far have not encountered the problem again. This is not to say that it won’t pop up again but just that it went on (and continued) longer than the previous save. I’m hoping that the first time was a corrupted save (if that’s even relevant to the issue).
I apologize for not being as articulate as I should have been. Here’s a bit more detail:
As I’ve mentioned earlier, I created a performance using ‘Universal Comp’ as the initial selection. I then added ‘SyncCP’ as an additional 5th part. No external MIDI connections were active either through the legacy ports or USB - the MODX was operating in standalone mode. After playing for less than a minute, the screen went grey/blank, and although the leds were on, the synth was totally unresponsive - necessitating a power off/on. I tried other voices - no problems. I selected the problem performance again and encountered the same problem - this time with a hung note and normal (although unresponsive) screen.
As far as the ‘aggressive’ playing, that may have been a bit too strong a word, let’s just say I was playing with a little more force on the keys than I normally do. So you’re absolutely right, my playing was no more ‘aggressive’ than others and I apologize for giving this impression.
In any event, I do appreciate all the help and thank you and Bad Mister for your input and attention. Take care.
** I just want to make a correction on the voice name ‘Sync CP’. I mistakenly took this as the name of the voice but as I realized later, it’s just a description of the category. The actual voice name is ‘P5 Resonance Comp’. If anyone has time to see if they experience the same problem, I’d really appreciate it. As I mentioned earlier, I added this part to the ‘Universal Comp’ performance. Thanks.
