MODX gain staging and clipping of factory presets

EDIT: I later found the hard clipping to be related to a bad DI box. See post 3. Leaving the original post below.
Hi,
I have a MODX7 running firmware 1.10. I initialized all settings and data after the firmware update.

The problem I'm having is that quite a few of the factory default performances clip and produce digital distortion when I hit the keys hard (Velocity 127).
This can be observed with performaces like "CFX Concert", "The Basics", "Rd Scratched", and several more. (Just hit a G chord starting on G4 + double G bass notes hard). Dialling back the the Part Volume in the Mixing takes away the distortion.
Also turning off inserts or dialling back the Rev Return and Var return, while keeping the Volume at 100 reduces the digital clipping.

For the "CFX Concert", I Soloed Part2, and turned off all returns and inserts. The piano sound was then clean at volume 127. When turning on insert B "VCM EQ 501", there will be digital clipping in the MODX due to the boosting of certain frequencies. This is the factory default for this performance.

Some of the factory preset patches have an issue with internal gain staging in the MODX.
It would be nice with more VU meters and/or clip warnings (like a red dot flashing on the screen over the offending stage) to assist in identifying where the clipping occurs when we design new custom perfomances.

On a slightly related sidenote: Could we please have an option to have the sends post-fader, so that send effects track the part volume? With the sends pre-fader (as they are now) we still hear the sound when we turn down the fader.

Best regards,
Eivind

Also keep in mind often there are offsets which may be affecting the volume such that with the slider at "0" - the offset would bump the volume up. The offsets would be controlled by controllers such as assignable knobs, mod wheel, ribbon, MS lanes, etc.

Indeed. That really adds to the complexity of the gain staging in the MODX.

EDIT:
Part of the problem was a bad DI box. The hard clipping I experienced was not related to the MODX at all!
I still find the gain staging difficult in the MODX.

I was surprised by the claims - but there have been some similar ones in the past and I do not have enough "run-time" on MODX to make a determination on my own. The usual debug list does have you isolate by removing all cables/sound reinforcement and scale down to a pair of trusted headphones. The headphone jack and Main L&R outputs are tied at the hip (basically one in the same) so if the headphones do not hear clipping - then there's likely something between MODX its terminating output that's gone wrong if there's clipping there.
