Separate Effects Controls via Additional Part Copies

Burn Parts (create more copies) to get Effects EQ control whilst retaining unique control of a Part's Source EQ/Flavourings

The Part Effects often have inbuilt EQ'ing facilities that, unfortunately, are of the combined Part and Effect, not just influencing the Effect.

So if you want to treat the effects to some very strong EQ'ing and flavourings, it smears, discolours and distorts your source sound, too.

However... if you copy a Part, and then max out the wetness ratio, you can then do what you like to this iteration of the Part and its Effects, and run the original somewhat dry, and with unique Compressors on it so you can animate and pop and subdue it with that. And now you have a "Volume" control for the effects copy separate from the source sound.

It's a pity we can't mirror keyboard control to the last 8 Parts, so they could be used for this kind of thing, but if you're using your MODX with a MIDI controller of any sort, you can do that.

For 1:1 mirror the MIDI loop-back trick would work if you really wanted this. Where MIDI out (5pin DIN is easiest) to MIDI in is connected and Parts 1-8 apply Zone control with MIDI output channels set to 9-16 respectively. Now Part 1 tells Part 9 what to do and down the line.

I'd rather have open season on all 16 Parts than a workaround - but the loop-back option is available if you really want to do that.

That's pretty much the mother of all tips and tricks with the MODX. Does it really work?

How exactly do you do this?

Is this it?

That's it. It's fairly simple - turn Zone Master on. Turn Part Zone on. Set the output MIDI channels for Parts 1-8 each point to their own MIDI channel in the range of 9-16.

MIDI cable connected from MIDI out to MIDI in. Set mode to MIDI (not USB).
