I'm struggling to find a way to use my old MOX6 as a MIDI controller for my MODX6.
Ideally, I would like to program all my patches on my MODX6 and use the MOX as a MIDI controller to access parts 9 - 16 specifically.
After many hours of experimenting, I haven't achieved what I'm after and I'm starting to wonder if my old MOX6 isn't capable to handle it. I'm also wondering if parts 9-16 of the MODX can be controlled simultaneously by a MIDI controller.
The latest thing I've tried on the MOX is using "Song mode", which allows up to 16 parts removed link I assigned parts 9-16 to channels 9-16 respectively and the MOX can recognize those parts if I select them individually. However, I still can't get the MOX to play more than one part simultaneously, and that's my ultimate goal.
Has anyone successfully integrated their MOX (or maybe even a MOXF) with a MODX as a master keyboard?
You're going to want to use Master Mode. There are 4 zones available so you would only be allowed to control up to 4 parts out of 9-16 at a time.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
Thanks for the response. I tried using Master Mode but I'm quite unfamiliar with it. I predominantly use Performance mode, so I haven't delved into Master Mode.
Is there a specific way to utilize Master Mode so the MOX6 works as a MIDI controller? Do i need to adjust settings in the Utility Tab?
Please see this extensive article by Bad Mister about how to use the MOXF Master Mode as a midi controller.
It is a complete tutorial that takes you step-by-step through the process.
In particular it covers rule 4 with an example you should follow yourself.
Rule 4: 128 MASTER Control setups can be created with a MOXF6/MOXF8 Voice, Performance, Song or Pattern MEMORY location associated (memorized) with it. You have the option of activating the ZONE switch with any of them – which adds communication to both internal and external sounds to create your own Master setups. You can have up to 4 Zones. The MOXF6/MOXF8 can transmit to itself and OUT via MIDI on up to 4 Zones. Zones can address internal sounds and/or external sounds.
