I'm creating a multi-channel performance. Attempted to save a scene (keyboard control on for the desired parts/Shift/Scene 1). The first Part inexplicably switched from a string sound to "Init Normal (FM-X)", a weird effect. I cannot re-assign it back to strings. In fact, I cannot re-assign it to ANY other sound view Category Search. What is going on? Some sort of bug? I'm in Firmware 2.52.0. Tried re-booting the MODX. How can I get rid of that FX voice? Can I delete this performance?

When creating your own Performances, it is necessary that a MODX sound occupy Part 1. Part 1 is referenced in the MODX’s Performance catalog as the anchor - it identifies the set of 16 Part slots.

Study the factory Preset Performances. There is always a Part 1 and it is Part’s Main and SubCategory ID that applies to the entire Perfo4mance. Example: “CFX Concert” - a four Part acoustic piano… it is Part 1 that places this in the “Piano” Main category, and “Acoustic” Sub Category.

If you attempt to DELETE or EXCHANGE Part 1 with a blank, the system will insert a Init program in that slot. Again, the MODX must have a program in Part slot 1. If you try to remove it, it will place one there.

When you wish to replace an individual Part you must initiate the third type of Category Search called “Part Category Search”

To do so you must *select* the individual Part
This can be done by touching the “Type/Name” box for Part 1 in the screen > a pop-in menu appears > tap “Category Search”
Or you can press the [PART SELECT_MUTE/SOLO] button, and Select “Part 1” > press [SHIFT] + [CATEGORY]

Either will launch “Part 1 - Category Search”
The screen name always appears in the upper left corner. Each of the three searches for programs has a different purpose.

There are 3 different Searches for sound programs:
“Performance Category Search” — used when you want to change the entire Performance. Appears from the HOME screen
“Performance Merge” — used when you add (“+”) a Performance to an empty slot.
“Part X - Category Search” — where ‘x’ is the Part # and you are replacing an existing Part. Select the Part, [SHIFT] + [CATEGORY].

So it is possible to replace the original Part 1 with another factory Preset? Mine allows insertion of only a few of the Preset sounds, which then combine with the weird "Init Normal (FM-X) Effect! Very strange!

If you need help with this try to describe, step-by-step, what you are doing. It is highly unlikely that your MODX works differently than all the rest.

Let us know.
