Hi there,

As per the subject line I am playing in a couple of bands where i am doing bass and keys duty.

So generally for each song I might create the band with the parts - starting with a bass and then adding say a piano/organ/pad/ etc. parts for the right hand to play.

As playing bass requires the left hand pretty much occupied all the time, I have tended to use the superknob/footpedal to control the volume of the right hand parts as it is easier to set and forget the bass volume once and keep it consistent for the band or sound guy and then I can adjust the other part(s) with the footpedal for the backing pads or solo organ or synth parts.

I notice that quite a few of the preset bass parts have the foot controller preset to adjust EQ1 Gain, which to me pumps up the volume somewhat but can also give a punchier sound (being a bass boost around 100Hz).

However I don't want to have this active for my sort of setup as described above.

I know how to turn it off however I was just wondering from a mixing or audio point of view what is the typical application of such a control (or is it all purely up to what my ears like)?

I am looking for any examples as to where a foot pedal might be used to control this parameter during a performance as distinct from a volume control. As I cannot control the final sound of the bass in a stage situation with a sound guy, would this parameter ever be useful in such a situation?

Hope this makes some sort of sense.

cheers

Dave

As a bass player I would EQ my amp according to the room using my ears. To replicate this you would perhaps move away from the superknob and move EQ of the bass Part (only) to assignable knobs not linked to superknob and turn these knobs to fit the room. This could go for anything though (not just bass).
