Hi

I haven't got much into sound programming so wondering if anyone can assist with this.

I am trying to recreate the sound at the into of Gary Numan - Cars.

I have played with the Part LFO on a few sounds, with destination set as cutoff and seem to be in the ballpark but not quite...

Do you mean the "warbly" part before the synth lead comes in?

I made 2 parts. The first I just used a saw with LP filter, cutoff of 96. It's just a low drone.
The "warble" I also used a saw, LPF cutoff 27. Triangle LFO, speed 43 with pitch mod 78 and filter mod 91.

Those 2 parts an octave apart. It sounds pretty dang good to me, considering it took 2 minutes. I'm sure it would benefit from FX.
I thought I could attach an mp3 here but it won't let me.

Thanks Mitch,

I'll give that a go.

I'm interested to know how to get this kind of skill, as it would be quicker than spending hours going through presets.

I'm still far from great at it. I just try to break a sound down into components. There's a sound I'm trying to recreate that's driving me nuts. I just can't get it right.

If you can find Rob Papen's Book/DVDs "The 4 Element Synth," It's awesome. It's out of print and mine got lost in my last move. 🙁
But if you can find it used, it's very good.

You can also look for a subtractive synthesizer soft synth for your computer. That will give you all the knobs and envelopes in one place to play around with.
