Hi! I have a PC with Hammond B3-X connected via USB to my MODX 7 and I have a MOXF 8 connected via 5-pin MIDI to the MODX 7.
I play piano sounds from the MODX in my MOXF and at the same time I play organ via MIDI from the MODX. In order to achieve that I need to route midi from MODX-3 to MODX-1 in the PC.
When the new OS 2.0 came I was hoping I could connect my MOXF directly via USB to the MODX without the need of routing in the PC.
I can control the MODX from the MOXF via USB to device, but there is a huge problem. Maybe it¨s a bug in the new OS?
When I send MIDI on channel 1-4 from MOXF to MODX USB to Device, MODX resends that MIDI signal on MIDI USB to Host.
On part 4 in the MODX, I have a MIDI part to control the organ on channel 11 (No local sound). The result I get is that the MODX now resends data on channel 4 from USB to Device out on channel 11 on USB to Host. That will trigger both the organ in my PC and the piano in my MODX when I play on the MOXF. I don't think that is a good implementation of MIDI.
I use my MOXF as a weighted MIDI-controller and don't want to change settings on it when I change sound on my MODX.
Some Piano-sounds on the MOXF have 4 part and that is why my MOXF always send on part 1-4
In the MODX, I want to the put the MIDI-part for the organ on part 4 where it's possible, because I then can keep the SSS-function on the performance.
Is there a setting were I can control that the MODX won't resend the USB-MIDI?
Are the new MIDI-implementation ion OS 2.0 correct and if it is, why?
I have and have had may different Yamaha synth but I was really disappointed when I bought the MODX a year ago and realized that you can't control which MIDI-channel each part will receive on. I was really hoping for that in the new update. Yamaha still have a lot to develop concerning MIDI-implementation in Montage and MODX.
Apart from the organ sounds I love the sounds in the MODX and my back loves the weight.

This is the way to do this. You are using the computer to intelligently re-route the signal using the multiple port function of the MODX’s built-in Interface and the Yamaha Steinberg USB (multi Port Driver).

Sorry, that is not exactly what it does. The ability to connect an external controller to the MODX via the “To Device” was intended to allow an external controller to take the place of the MODX’s own keyboard. An example would be a controller like the Roli. Or if you have a MODX8, and prefer to use a non-weighted key action to play your B3 sounds, plugging it directly to the “To Device” would facilitate a growing number of devices that no longer include a 5-pin DIN option.
Therefore, plugging in via this “To Device” port allows you thru data wherever you want.
There is no two-way communication as you would expect via a usb connection.

When MIDI I/O Mode is set to Multi
• Channel events, received through channels corresponding to Parts with Keyboard Control Switch set to On, are received in parallel by all Parts with Keyboard Control Switch set to On. After receiving, when this instrument transmits MIDI data, all note data of the channel corresponding to parts with Keyboard Control Switch set to On are transmitted.
• Channel events received via the channel that corresponds to the Part with Keyboard Control Switch set to Off affect the corresponding Part. After receiving, when this instrument transmits MIDI data, the same channels used for receiving are used to transmit the channel data.
When the MIDI I/O Mode is set to Single or Hybrid
• Channel events, received through channels corresponding to Parts with Keyboard Control Switch set to On, are received in parallel by all Parts with Keyboard Control Switch set to On. However, when this instrument receives Control Change messages regarded as Common parameters and the MIDI I/O mode is set to Single, this instrument does not send Control Change messages to the Part and instead treats them as Common parameters. After receiving, Sending of Control Change messages is done according to the MIDI I/O Channel setting.
• Channel events received via the channel that corresponds to the Part with Keyboard Control Switch set to Off are received by the corresponding Parts. The received MIDI data is not re-transmitted when the MIDI I/O mode is set to Single.
