Just as the question asks. Settings on the MODX to achieve this, regardless of DAW used.
Preventing Receipt (MODX receiving Part Volume changes)
If Part volumes equate to CC7 (such as when moving sliders when no Part is selected) then CC7 can be filtered for each Part by turning off the Vol/Exp Receive switch.
When I used Cubasis (2 MIDI tracks - one for CH1 and one for CH2) to test this, I used a 2 Part Performance (EP and Pad type) and used sliders to change the volumes in drastic and obvious ways over 8 measures. When played back with Vol/Exp turned on both Parts - I would see the sliders move according to the recorded CC data in the Cubasis MIDI tracks.
One issue I ran into was that when I pressed "play" in the DAW - any changes including the Vol/Exp setting reverted back. This is because Cubasis "automagically" inserts MSB/LSB/PC information on CH1 (when playing track 1 for MIDI CH 1) which ends up resetting the Part. What I did to work around this was changed the keyboard [UTILITY] options "Settings" -> "Advanced" and turned off "Bank Select" and "Pgm Change". Now the keyboard ignores these MSB/LSB/PC messages.
With this "fortified" - I could turn off Vol/Exp Receive Switches on Parts 1 and 2 and playing the MIDI data that previously would have impacted volume no longer changes the volumes of these two Parts.
Since Part Volumes can be modulated by motion control - this does not provide a "firewall" for every source of Part volume changes that a DAW could send (and also depending on the programming of the Performance). Hopefully this helps.
I'm going to have to take a look at Part Volumes coming out of MODX later.
EDIT: Not related to the question, but related to the Cubasis wrinkle I ran into (maybe will help someone else). Cubasis defaults MIDI tracks on my device to always load in the built-in synth "Acoustic Piano". I didn't easily find a way to setup just a MIDI track without attaching to the built-in synth so I would mute the synth. However, the consequence of having this synth attached to the MIDI track is that MSB/LSB/PC messages intended for this synth are sent out when pressing "Play". Now I see there's a "< Microsonic" label that, turns out (and not obvious), can be touched and this will allow for selecting the "instrument" including "no instrument". Now when I play the track, the MSB/LSB/PC is not sent -- so I could remove the filter on the keyboard now.
