GIVEN:
The Montage has one Mode: PERFORMANCE mode.
Performances can be a combination of one MULTI PART and several SINGLE PARTS.
A PERFORMANCE has 16 PARTS - they each can occupy a slot of the PERFORMANCE
If you wish to use the Montage as a 16 PART multi-timbral tone engine you can setup a MULTI with 16 PARTS, one per channel:

QUESTION:
"As a 16 Part Channel multi-timbral tone engine setup as a MULTI with 16 PARTS, one per channel",
each part can respond to an assigned midi channel controlled by an external sequencer.

All you have to do is assign each part in the PERFORMANCE ...a single sound (per part) with its own assigned midi channel?

Correct?

With the MIDI mode set to "multi" - there is no need to setup the MIDI channels (in fact, you cannot). The MIDI channels are fixed.

MIDI Ch 1 = Part 1
MIDI Ch 2 = Part 2
MIDI Ch 3 = Part 3
(and so on ...)
MIDI Ch 16 = Part 16

So MIDI Ch # == Part #

Also, you mention "single sound (per part)". While you could do this - and I translate what you say as a single waveform per part - since each PART can have 8 elements - you could actually layer or split multiple "sounds" per part. Therefore, I believe the capabilities go beyond what you have summarized.

A single PART could have piano and bass and a lead synth (all AWM2). You just cannot mix FM and AWM2 on a single part - each PART can be either pure FM or pure AWM2.

As a sanity step, I would also press [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) before starting the sequencer to deselect any of the individual PARTs.

Hello, I just bought a Montage, had before a Motif 6 ES, and the new organization appears a bit complicated to me. I just understood the importance of the keyboard control to avoid double notes in my Midi system. And i regret that it's not possible to allocate the same midi channel to several parts. To play perfectly a complex performance, i have to choose single midi output, and then i can use only one sound...so my question is : do you think a future update will bring this possibility to allocate the same midi channel to several parts? (Sorry for my english)

Great technology makes that which is complex ...more simple.
What I don't want is to create "Analysis Paralysis".........getting so caught up in the new tech ...you're getting nothing productive done.

That Said....I am SO SO glad that I did NOT get rid of my Motif XF8. Hands down... the Motif XF is a songwriter's dream.
Yet...I have been thinking that the new technology of the Montage, flexibility and sonic character could definitely be an awesome compliment to the Motif XF.

Thank you for your help.

This sounds great ....
!
