I (and I assume some others) am looking for a copy of the synth sound on Seal's popular song Crazy.

There are a few good copies of it on YouTube for the Kronos - but nothing for a Yamaha!

Here is a YouTube video of the synthesizer Seal uses live - in this YouTube video it is the Roland Fantom G8.

The sound/"riff" starts at :45 and you can see his keyboard player playing it throughout the video.

Here are some notes on how to make the sound from Mitchell Sigman from his 'Steal That Sound' feature.

Thanks!

The LFO cutoff sweep you can take a look "Journey Within" preset Part 3 and look at the "Mod/Control" -> "Part LFO" settings to get that slow sweep idea.

There's a thread that can be somewhat used when the presets are referenced as Montage has the guts of the past synths:

I'm not sure what you mean by the leading theme, but I think this gate arpeggio is a guide throughout the song.
An introduction would be Cosmic Gate (on the Motif XF PRE 6 D10) to cut a little Cutofff and Resonance and maybe find a better Arpeggio.
Soundwise (also with some screws) try Resonance Comp (P6 D15) and Rezz Punch (P6 E10).

For the surface of an analog pad z. B. Edit the Motif or the Easy Sounds Synthpads.

At the very beginning P6 D02 Oooh Pad as a base. The short arpeggio in the intro is m. E. not necessarily to bring the character of the song over.

If you have such a song as "Crazy" - with an ingenious sound structure for my taste, especially with the keys -
As close as possible to the original, I can only warmly recommend the combination of Motif and Omnisphere from Spectrasonics.

Hey, thanks!

That YouTube Motif XF video is terrible - it sounds nothing like the original. 🙁

The Kronos YouTube ones nail it.

Surprised someone hasn't been able to come up with this on a Yamaha...

I'm not judging it - just was offering it as an example counter to "nothing from [users of] Yamaha".

For me I was listening to the cutoff modulated organish line - and it sounded close enough to me. I find the audience is much more forgiving to the exact color of the sound than some band members. If I come up with Royal blue and the song really uses Byzantine blue - it's hardly a meaningful difference to my pay or audience enjoyment. I could perhaps spend many more hours working on Byzantine - but there are diminishing returns. I don't knock those that have a different perspective. There's something to be gained, at a personal and academic level, from something closer to perfect reproduction.
