Hi, if you have time then could you please watch the video below and help me in detailed how the gentleman managed to setup in the video which allowed external keyboard, yamaha montage and a pc interact to each other well. Yes, I know how to connect from the external keyboard to the AD input of the Montage and the rest is a bit unknown to me. Thanks in advance for your help.

The physical connections are as detailed in this message:

https://yamahasynth.com/ask-a-question/sampling-montage-sounds-to-sample-robot-where-am-i-going-wrong

... which has the picture:

Purple = MIDI cable to computer, Green = MIDI cable (old style 5-pin DIN) to the external keyboard you are sampling, Red/Black = 1/4" TS audio cables from external keyboard to Montage A/D input.

In the first few moments of the video, you saw him play the Montage keys and the external keyboard responded. This was because he had the MIDI I/O setup for MIDI mode to be "MIDI" (not USB). Then, when you saw him go and switch the configuration before having Samplerobot do its thing, he changed the MIDI mode to "USB" such that the computer could control the keyboard.

You heard him say "Montage Port 3", as the MONTAGE-3 MIDI port is required in order to target devices that are connected to the 5-pin MIDI DIN when addressed from a PC that is connected to Montage using a USB connection.

... also, to the right of most places on this forum is a sort of "what's new news" bar that includes a tutorial on sampling external MIDI devices using SampleRobot. It's something that came out after that thread - so there is another/different resource to take a look at:

Just for anyone who is interested about SampleRobot or never try before then I must say that I am quite impressed with the product, there are still some bugs here and there but it should not stop, it is easy to use, on the sounds I tested it produced almost identical to the one from the external keyboard. There are two downside I have found so far since I have been experimenting with the product in the last few days:
1) The sound is not right if you import from a wave file, by somehow it lose a lot of characteristic of the original sound.
2) There does not seem a dedicated support forum for this product, I emailed them my questions but never get a reply.

Have a great day everyone.

Sample Robot is a sampling program, importing a wave File is like *not* using the program. If you already have a .wav File you are not allowing the program to do β€˜its thing’ β€” which is generating the data.

As complex as sample robot can get, a forum would be nice to be able to distribute the task of support from Skylife to the community (subsidized help). The trend for support is to remove individual ticket systems and force support to the open. Which works well for something like using instruments and related software. Not so well for helping a business which needs help and is working on confidential patent-pending stuff. So SampleRobot seems to fit forum-support model well. Give it long enough and someone will start an unofficial group. There's already unofficial places where Yamaha-related stuff is discussed - maybe one of those forums either has or can open up a SampleRobot sub-category. Not so great if Skylife doesn't participate - but maybe "build it and they will come".

In the meantime, there are key players here that have good relationships with the Skylife team and have been instrumental in helping solve issues/questions with some of the larger usage issues. So discussions here do get some traction. Thanks Joel.

Bad Mister, by trade I am an experienced IT consultant, I am pretty comfortable with technology, you do not need to defend something which could be improved otherwise don't offer a feature but can only deliver amateur solution. In this case Samplerobot offered to import wave file, it was my feedback for them to improve the quality for future release rather tan finding excuses, but I am also aware that the product is free...

Hi Jason, just coming back from Italy yesterday were i meet one Camelot Pro member team, Emanuele.
I did not gone on Germany πŸ˜‰

Like i do not import wave file on Sample robot, i cannot answer myself, i use Montage Waveform Editor from John Melas for this kind of wave importing.

I see the point and transmit.

Joel, wasn't necessarily enlisting you to do anything. I was referencing you as one example of how this site can be beneficial, for SampleRobot issues, in lieu of having a dedicated forum.
