Can you assign a foot controller globally or does it have to be done by individual performances only. This was capable on motif but I dont think on modx. Trying to assign it to modwheel personally.

See p.167 of the reference doc. The Mod Wheel by default uses CC #1 so set the foot controller CC to 1.

This is the Montage forum but your question mentions Modx. It should be the same for both.

Isn’t this only in performances not global?

What happened when you tried it? I have a Montage M8X so can't be sure for Modx or classic Montage.

Global settings are under [UTILITY].

Starting at Page 187 ...

(I realize this is a Montage - I believe Classic - question -- giving MODX docs since it's nearly identical and the MODX reference manual includes items not added to the Montage reference manual.   Usually a better manual to reference most things and this is an area of zero difference between the MODX and Montage Classic)

As I scan through all I can see that might do it is to change Superknob CC to 1.  To my knowledge this is more for input to control the superknob and not so much what superknob will internally send but I wonder if you set Superknob to 1 then if your FC that controls superknob will "act" like a mod wheel.  I doubt it.

Assuming that hack doesn't work, the "front door" way of doing this is going into each Performance and changing the value to CC=1 for the FC assuming that does what you want it do for a single Performance.  Montage(Classic/M)/MODX(+) have the same architecture where they decided that there would be lots of flexibility at the individual Performance level which puts some strain on "globals".  There's no inheritance like there was on Motif - so every Performance is a snowflake.   And to put globals on all of the things you could possibly do this with is a heavy tax.  That said - some things make sense to globalize and we have seen some Performance settings with globals added in later firmware.   The foot expression pedals were not part of this.  Montage M still has some wiggle room to take suggestion so maybe enough influence (ideascale votes, etc) can get this into the new(er) M keyboard.  The Montage classic is a done deal having been discontinued.

Only the docs were update for the Montage M - p.251

Control Number

Sets the Control Change number for the entire Performance.

At least it says it is at the performance level. But both the Modx and Montage classic docs say this:

Control Number

Determines the MIDI Control Change numbers common for the entire system

That 'entire system' could have you think it was global.

It doesn't help that all the Utility MIDI screens have a 'Control Number' button that, being in 'Utility' also suggests 'global' even though it isn't.

The good news is that adding a set of 'global' control numbers should have NO backward compatibility issues since every performance will already have it's own set of control numbers. So those would 'override' any global settings that were added.

I can't find an IdeaScale suggestion for this.
