i don’t find littérature about connecting usb controller to the montage ,just you can find about external keyboard controlling montage part.
I connected an usb expression foot pedal, the boss Ev1l to the montage usb to device. Montage show me the message of connection, looks ok. I was thinking naively that I could use this pedal in control assign like the another pedal connected but now I suppose that is not possible, you can assign only what there is on the list menu of control assign, no external usb controller or even thru midi in din plug I assume. The pedal was set to midi canal 1 and I was using part 1 of the performance, I did this just in case but it change nothing. Can you confirm me that you cannot use external midi or usb device in control assign? Then is the use of external controller like knobs, slider or pedal become useless?
I don’t see a way for use this usb/midi pedal with montage, any idea? Maybe more lucky with midi din connection? My goal was to control knobs on live cession like I do with the usual analog expression pedals already connected thru the jack.

The usb pedal works well, I check thru à midi monitoring. Assign knob works only internally? but also maybe thru device connected to midi jack as there is a breath controller in the list of assign knob( but some breath controller works on usb too). I choose midi cc 2 for the pedal but nothing happen as I thought. Maybe this pedal will work thru midi jack but then, I am not sure about that, will I be able to control only the knobs of the part that have same midi channel than the pedal or any knobs of any parts as it is thru control assign. I need a jack to midi din for test that.

I checked some old post where people wanted use a usb breath controller with montage thru usb to device and that was not working. Montage doesn’t receive midi cc thru usb to device. If setting montage to midi io single , that usb pedal that I can plug also thru a midi jack should have access to all knobs of all parts thru assign knobs, thru cc2 breath controller?

By chance, I remember that I had a breath controller and that have both usb and midi and I could confirm that it is not working on usb to device but work very well thru midi jack with midi io single. Breath controller is interesting but I don’t like to have a piece of plastic in the mouth and that make you drooling 🤤 , not very elegant. I have just to find a jack to midi din and this boss pedal should operate on the montage as expected for an extra super control.

Don't use a literal breath controller(BC). Use a pedal that outputs MIDI and lets you assign the foot pedal to the BC's CC number and then select BC as the source for control assignments.
A Doremidi MPC-10 can be used to convert standard analog expression pedals. Or a Behringer FCB1010 can be used. Or .... (Google search)
