I'm hoping you can help me with this problem.....the first problem (which is probably the cause of my other problems) is that Montage Connect is showing a "Firmware version error" and therefore has a "NOT READY" stated in red on left side of the box. The firmware of the Montage is 1.20.4 and in the Montage Connect box it is showing the same version. Also,I am using Cubase 9.0.1
Needless to say without this connection I cannot play any of my music (all still in MIDI format) on Cubase. In the past I had created a template with 10 different instruments on Cubase and when I would sit down to compose something I had those 10 instruments I always used at my fingertips. I am hoping I can still set something like that up.
Two other things, first I noticed on your YouTube video that when you choose your ASIO it was named MONTAGE whereas mine is the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO. I don't know if that makes a difference but I thought I would mention it. (I unplugged my UR22 just so there was no confusion)
The other........is there a remote switch on the Montage like my MOTIF SX8 where I can control Cubase functions? I can't seem to locate anything like that and it's going to be tough having to use the keyboard to start/stop recordings again.
Thanks for your help!
Hi Michael,
You can connect and play the Montage without Montage Connect. It simply allows you some additional Load/Save and Import options that make working with a computer more convenient, but you can certainly connect and play without it.
You have firmware version 1.20.4 which requires Montage Connect version 1.0.1
If you would like to use Montage Connect now, download and install Montage Connect version 1.0.1
On or about March 10, you can update the firmware of the Montage to 1.51.x and then presumably Montage Connect 1.0.2 will work again.
If you are going to use Cubase as your DAW you can setup a Performance with you favorite sounds assigned to Parts and make that your Default Template - this way anytime you open Montage Connect inside Cubase your Performance setup will automatically be sent to the Montage.
The video shows the Driver as "Montage" because I was using a Macintosh which identifies the DEVICE, on a Windows PC the driver is called by its name "Yamaha Steinberg USB"...
There are no remote control functions to control DAWs on Montage.
Thank you for the quick response. I must say I will definitely miss the remote capabilities of the MOTIF, that was such an excellent feature however the rest of what you told me makes sense and I just have to change the way I do things a little........
I saw the link to firmware 1.5 https://yamahasynth.com/component/k2/montageosversion15 however when I follow it through the download is not available. I noticed another forum member, Lawrence mentioned that he currently is using it..........is that available somewhere that I am just not seeing?
Thanks again........
Just found my answer: Important notice about MONTAGE OS v1.5:
There is an issue related to the power on sequence in MONTAGE OS v1.5. As a result, we are suspending MONTAGE OS v1.5 downloads.
We are also working on an update to fix this issue. This update (MONTAGE OS v1.51) will be available around Mar 10.
If you already installed MONTAGE OS v1.5, please note the following information. If you turn the power OFF during the power on sequence, there is a small chance you could lose all sound. To avoid this situation, please do not turn off MONTAGE during the power on sequence.
If you encounter any problems, please contact your customer support center.
We apologize for any problems this may cause.
I guess I will have to wait until then unless I can get the earlier copy of Montage Connect......
These links may help. Keep in mind some information is dated since this is early information. Nothing major. One item, for example, is the Motif XF vs. Montage performance count. Since the firmware version available in the article - newer firmware has been released and thus increases the Montage's total performance count to over 2k (and counting).
