As we know Yamaha has released dumbed down versions of the Montage called MODx etc. but how about smarting up the YC stage?
Go to a touch screen and expanded capabilities, etc.
Funny that if it's a "synth" then you can go as smart or as dumb as you want however if you classify it as a "stage" it must remain dumb by default.
I'm not buying that philosophy. Some players that buy a synth might never dive into at all they just like the large touch screen and I know someone who did exactly that.
Likewise some players who buy a stage might dive continually (like me) and might hate the micro LED.
Ironically most stage players are probably over 50 and can't see well anyway which is enough logic to change it alone.
Ditch the stereotypes and product survey garbage and just make fun and enticing boards with bells and whistles.
I am hoping one day we will get a YC quality synth style board maybe a MODx-YC hybrid.
Still love the one knob one function but add touch screen organization and sound creation and advanced layering functionality better than the SKpro. I'll buy it now.
The MODX is not a "Dumbed Down" version. It's OS is the same as the Montage. Also, IMHO, the OS is not for the feint hearted, it is very deep and takes time and commitment to learn.
At the end of the day, the MODX is a Synthesiser to the core. The fact it has thousands of presets, including Pianos, Organs and other real instruments is a bonus, but not really the main selling point. It's the fact you can fundamentally change and alter all those sounds... into something completely different if you desire. Sound Design, Sound Creation... Sound Synthesis.
If anyone buys a MODX just for the presets, it will serve them well, but they will not be benefiting from all it has to offer.
Equally, some who buy the MODX and only want "Presets" sometimes complain the User Interface is frustratingly complex. In which case they would have been better advised to buy an Arranger Keyboard, or a Stage Keyboard.
The main selling point of Arranger and Stage Keyboards is simplicity, when compared to Synthesiser. Plug in and Play.
In the case of the MODX, the hardware on a Stage Keyboard is also several degrees more luxurious, because it is expected that ease of use in a live (vs Studio) environment is paramount.
Therefore, Stage Keyboards are intentionally focused on Performance and Simplicty, with enough variety of sounds to sail through a typical Stage Performance, or Studio Session.
The YC is a quality Organ, with extra sounds thrown in for good measure, and that will compliment the Organ.
Likewise the CP, is primarily a quality Piano with bonus extras.
There have been plenty of experienced Piano or Organ players who have mistakenly bought a MODX and found it severely lacking for their needs. It's because Pianos and Organs on the MODX are just a facsimile compared to the CP or YC. They're enough to get by, in a "Synth Gig".
You seem to want a YC Quality Keyboard that is also a "Deep" Synthesiser. I'd probably suggest getting a Montage in that case, since it has a better quality Keyboard, and more control hardware (buttons, knobs, and Sliders that can "fake" drawbars). But it is still a Synth at its core, and it is still lacking the purpose built Organ features you find on the YC.
Maybe you could also consider buying a MODX and having it as a second tier Keyboard alongside your YC. That would work.
@David I think you want a Nord Stage 3 that's not so heavy. So does my daughter.
