Has anyone encountered a problem with ESP where Cubase doesn't show the plugin?

My laptop shows it, but my desktop doesn't. Running Cubase Pro 13 on Windows 10. The difference between the two is that the desktop has been continually upgraded since version 9, on the laptop 13 is the only install.

Tried Cubase forum, Steinberg support, and jiggled every wire I can think of, but thus far no joy.

Has anyone else encountered and solved this problem?

The difference seems to be history of settings.  Since an install upgraded from v9 will have had lots of time for your custom settings while a relatively fresh install will be more-or-less stock.  I'd probably go through all of the settings and compare the two.  That may be a large task because I don't think "settings" are all in one place.

Encountered? Yes

Solved? No

Running Cubase Pro 13 on Windows 10. The difference between the two is that the desktop has been continually upgraded since version 9, on the laptop 13 is the only install.

On Startup the status line at the bottom of the free Cubase 13 AI LE shows the ESP being 'Initialized' but it never shows up in the plug-in manager. So the startup code clearly finds it. This is also on Win 10.

I put the ESP in every possible path and changed all of the folder settings to full control for Everyone in case it was a privilege issue.

Also tried deinstalling and reinstalling the Steinberg USB driver.

Tried Cubase forum, Steinberg support, and jiggled every wire I can think of, but thus far no joy.

This is the feedback I got from Yamaha Support

  1. does the free Cubase 13, on Windows 10, support the ESP plugin? It never shows up in the plugin manager even though it appears to be loading at the startup of Cubase.

Yes, it should if that computer has been authorized via the Steinberg Download Assistant and properly installed.

But there was nothing at all about what the problem might be.

If you get it solved, or hear from Cubase support please post the info. I will do the same.

In case it's useful for anyone else's debugging, here’s what I’ve tried thus far with no success:

  1. Updated to 13.0.41 (was on 13.0.20)
  2. Removed everything from C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 folder but the Yamaha ESP plugin
  3. Deleted the entire Cubase 13_64 preferences folder in %AppData% so that Cubase would start up fresh with defaults
  4. Deleted all previous version Cubase folders, e.g. Cubase_9, etc.
  5. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Esp plugin
  6. Rebooted multiple times throughout
  7. Burned incense, sacrificed chickens. Might be time to upgrade to goats.

And thus far I've not heard back from Cubase support. I rarely need to contact them so I don't have a reality check on what the normal wait time is.

I agree that it seems to be environmental, but I deleted every setting I could find (checked %appdata%, %programdata%, registry) and it still didn't help. If this is a VST3 issue rather than ESP specifically, I've read things where people even did a new install of Cubase and it didn't help, although I cant' substantiate that. I'm hoping to avoid going down that road.

I put the ESP in every possible path

To the best of my knowledge, while VST2s can reside in multiple places, VST3s are supposed to live in a single location, C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.

Another thing I read was people having VST3 plugins not showing up because they had VST2 plugins in the VST3 folder. That wasn't the case for me, but it might be one more thing for you to check. Since it's environmental, there may be more than one issue affecting different people.
