You'll know you're getting close when guitar players hate it!

The Montage comes with a full compliment of guitar amp simulations... And if you know you guitar amps you can figure out which ones are modeled.
U.S. Combo, U.S. High Gain, British Legend, British Lead, British Combo, etc., etc. You will have to be the judge about how good the distortions are, but I think you can pull it off. Montage has arguably the best effects ever in a keyboard - but music is all personal taste.

When it arrives, let us know what you think. Are you recording or thinking about doing the metal rhythm guitar thing "live"...

Nah not "live", just doing my own stuff at home, absolutely love melodic symphonic progressive and neoclassical metal, and I have a lot of music going around in my head of this genre that I just gotta express! So I am really looking forward to it.

I ordered a bunch of Yamaha stuff along with the Montage8.
Most of my order came quickly.... except the Keyboard which is another 4 weeks or so away 🙂 Lol...would have preferred it the other way around!

I can tell you, the Guitar Soinds on Montage are GREAT!
At rehearsal i played the picking guitar parts from cranberries zombie...
After the Song our Singer asked our Guitar Player, who played First Guitar "that was great, how did. you do this?" 😛

:Yep - the electric guitar sounds are killer, but that's just half of it. The other part is playing like a guitarist plays. 🙂 Having the guitar louder than everything else also helps with the realism so make sure you drown out the vocals, drummer, fire alarms, etc. 😀 😀 😀

I played both, synths and E-guitar. The acoustic guitars and steel guitars have a really high quality and sound close to perfect on the montage.
But i have never heard a really good heavy metal guitar on a synth. Distortion and other effects might be well on the montage, but it still doesn't sound so well, that someone would believe it is real. Maybe if you play really easy riffs (like Smoke on the water). If you think about complex and hard sounding heavy metal riffs, i don't believe it will sound real. And the other thing is to play it on a keyboard. I don't know your skills, but it is for sure not easy.
I know, a lot of synth lovers don't like to hear that, but if you compare the sounds , then it sounds crappy and thin on a synth.
This is not on the montage only. Every other instrument sounds well to perfect, but this might be a problem on synths.
If someone can show me that i'm wrong with this, i would be happy.

Try using the Metal Mute patch with AS1 on, perhaps use the rhythm assign to put in e.g. real kit 2, then play 1/4 note D with LH, and hammer away very fast on G with RH, eg 4 1/16th triplets, the 4th falling on the off-beat. This results in a fairly convincing drop-D tuning thrash metal kind of chug. 🙂
