Hi is there way to sidechain compress the delay effects so they dont muddy up the original notes being played?

Off the top of my head:
1. make a copy of the part and trigger both simultaneously
2. put a delay in effect slot 1 of the doubled part (but not the original part) and make the delay completely wet
3. put a compressor in effect slot 2 and sidechain using the first part according to taste.
