Every time I have updated my OS, my midi/song files stored in the Montage are deleted and when I restore my user data, they are not restored. There are no options for backing or restoring these files.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Hi,

You have to make a 'backup' file before upgrading OS.
Then, after upgrade, load your backup file.

If you only load a 'user' file, the midi song are not here.

When you record a Performance using the internal Play/Rec function you are offered a chance to backup the data as a .mid File.
When you load a .mid to the MONTAGE it automatically is placed in your SONG Folder, where it remains until you either Delete it or you initialize your MONTAGE.

SONG and .mid Files are not apart of the USER BANK; They do not get installed in Libraries; They simply reside in the UTILITY > “Contents” > “Data Utility” > SONG Folder. You can install a .mid in your SONG folder so you don’t have to carry them around on a USB stick and load them. They are simply kept in an onboard folder.

When you create a USER (.X7U) or LIBRARY (.X7L) File they do not include your SONGs
However, when you create a BACKUP (.X7A) File, your Song Folder content, along with all other MONTAGE data, is saved.

Can you restore just the song files from the backup? If not will there eventually be a way to restore just those files? If the user puts stuff in the system, it should be a part of the user save/restore function.

Thanks.

Not from a Backup File... But since the SONG files are all in .MID format, and are likely to exist on your computer before they ever arrive in the MONTAGE. Assuming you made the .MID files with your favorite DAW, you will already have a backup of each FILE on your computer. In the majority of cases you will have exported your DAW file as a SMF (.MID) and shuttled it over to the MONTAGE via a USB Stick.

And if you made the SONG directly in the MONTAGE Performance Recorder, it is highly recommended that you Store/Save them as .MID files to a USB stick or use MONTAGE CONNECT to drag and drop them directly into your computer for individual back up.

I doubt whether there will ever be a routine to extract just a single SONG from a BACKUP file (but never say never). As you can see, you will likely have individual .mid files for each SONG in your MONTAGE SONG folder. You can keep 128 (as of version 2.00) Songs in your Song Folder.
