Hi everyone,
just got my montage and thanks to all the online tutorials and this forum I can already do a lot of stuff with it 🙂 I´m on my first own performance with drums, bass arp and scenes. Now I cannot figure out how to make the drums in a scene start with the beginning of the next measure instead of immediately when pressing a scence button. please help!

If you were writing out charts for members of a band, you would use a "rest" to delay the start of a particular instrument playing. Parts under control of one of the eight Montage Arpeggiators can be told to play any of 10,000 preset and/or 256 user arpeggio phrases. Among the 10,000 preset Arps are those that can be used as musical rests. They feature silence counted out in specific Time Signatures.
The Arp named "Mute 4/4" when selected as the arp phrase will cause that Part to just count the silence. It is different from setting the value to "Off"... "Off" causes the arpeggio to be disengaged, meaning to begin it again a key needs to be triggered again. The "Mute 4/4" simply counts the rest value, when you change sections it is still engaged and will automatically start playing the next phrase when instructed.
Find a Performance where this is the case... "Kreuzberg Funk"
Press the [PERFORMANCE(HOME)] button to see the main screen ... Drums are in Part 4, Percussion in Part 5
The blue Scene buttons have been linked to advance arpeggio phrases 1-8....
You can see exactly where Arpeggio Phrases are assigned to a Part:
Press [EDIT]
Press [PART SELECT 4] to view Part 4 parameters
Touch "Common" in the lower left corner of the screen (or Press the lower [COMMON] button > touch "Arpeggio" > "Individual"
Here you can see how as many as eight phrases can be linked to a Part.
In ARP 1, Part 4 is instructed to recall the "Mute 4/4" Phrase this is how it is told to "rest" while Arp 1 is selected.
Arp 2 brings in an Arp that is just the Bass Drum
Arp 3 brings in an Arp that is Bass drum and Snare, and so on...
that sounded a bit complicated but yes, that´s it, thank you so much!

Things always sound complicated when written out, one reason we'd rather look at a video rather than read. Learning to tie a shoelace looks impossibly difficult when written out, impossibly! But nothing could be more child's play. Remember that when reading a manual... What it is trying to describe is probably very simple really, it just looks difficult when written out.
In Montage you have the Performance...at the top level. It is made up of Parts (instruments). So Arpeggios would be a Part parameter as they trigger a particular instrument.
Within the Part, you have Elements (Waveforms that build the instrument)... Arps typically play all Elements in common. So Arps are a Part edit parameter Common to all Elements.
speaking of complicated, now I am desperately looking for how to get the montage to send multiple midi and audio channels to my DAW and not record everything just on one track. In the manual it says go to EDIT, part settings and part output in "general display". I see no such thing as a "part output" anywhere no matter how hard I look and how many menues I go thru.
ahhh wait, I just tried one more time and found it. didn´t realize I had to assign each and every part. thought this was somewhere in general settings!
The MIDI Channel is pre-Assigned by Montage.
Routing of Audio is very flexible, and yes, of course, you have to assign Parts to audio outputs as you require. This can vary on a per case basis. The default template must be customized for your own use.
In general, you route things to separate audio tracks with a plan of what you want to,do with them. No one can know what that is before you come up with that idea.
I figured out multiple tracks with audio but not with midi, searched the forum and you said "Press [UTILITY] Set the MIDI I/O mode = Single. Select a MIDI channel to match the channel you are transmitting On. The Montage (when set to MIDI I/O mode MULTI)" I don´t see a MULTI or SINGLE mode on the utility MIDI I/O screen. What could I be doing wrong?
MIDI I/O mode = Single would be used to create a single channel of information transmitting Out via MIDI, and/or when you want to trigger a MultiPart Performance that is designed for KBD CTRL by sending a single channel In.
If your goal is to record multiple MIDI tracks (and multiple audio tracks) you will need to use MIDI I/O mode = multi.
Understanding how multi Part Performances work is important, especially when recording MIDI. There are times you want to transmit on multiple channel (like when arpeggio data is involved) and there are times when, for editing purposes, you want just a single stream of data.
[UTILITY] > touch "Settings" > "Advanced"
That's where you find the MIDI I/O mode.
Thank you, I just studied your 3 articles on Montage with Cubase. I didn´t see where to set midi to single or multi mode cos I didn´t look in "advanced" just in "midi i/o".
There are situations where it makes the most sense to set MIDI I/O to Single, to be sure.
It's not really mentioned in the articles because most of the time using the Montage as a multi-timbral tone engine and working with MIDI in a DAW go hand in hand. I think it's the exception when you are going to set your hardware to a Single MIDI channel and record to a DAW. It is not that can't happen, it's just that Single mode means one instance of the Montage... then you must render as audio, in order to retask the hardware, if you are going to record additional MIDI tracks. If you get my meaning.
But both are viable workflows.
