I am looking to control Live Set+ and Live Set- from my FC-300 Midi foot controller. I can't seem to find in the data list how this can be achieved through MIDI. Is there a sysex or bank select message that can do it?

Thanks
Sean

We cannot help you with your FC300 MIDI Foot Controller Pedal.

What you need to understand is addressing the keyboard via MIDI is often different from addressing it via its own controls. This is one of those instances. Perhaps when sending a fixed function control number like cc007, you get what is universally dictated by MIDI convention. But there is no standard MIDI message for LIVE SET Inc/Dec. That is exclusive to the MONTAGE firmware. You cannot assign it a CC number.

The setting you are likely referring to is for setting a momentary FOOT SWITCH connected directly to the Assignable Foot Switch jack can be set to “Live Set +” (Live Set increment) or “Live Set -“ (Live Set decrement). There is no MIDI In CC number assignment equivalent.

If you want to change the Live Set via MIDI IN you can do so using standard MSB/LSB Bank Select and Program Change numbers.
Simply recall the Live Set area you wish to access (Preset, User, Library) - the most recently accessed Live Set will be identified and accessible. In other words you manually select the area that contains the Live Set you want to access, then you can use the BANK SELECT/PC messages to move to any Live Set location.

It’s in the latest Data List Booklet Page 184.

MSB/LSB 62/0 would Select the first Bank, Page 1; a PC of 0-15 would select a slot 1-16 on the Page.

BM,
Thanks for the reply. I understand that it is non standard MIDI but thought there might be a Sysex message I could use - I already use the foot controller using sys ex messages for Arp Master on off etc. I could get it to send Program Change messages but it's not quite what I'm after. I am more interested in getting a Live Set + and Live Set - driven from my foot controller as I want to switch performances without lifting my hands.

It doesn't look like there is a system exclusive message to control this then.

Plug an FC5 (momentary) Type Foot Switch in the Assignable Foot Switch, Set the FS ASSIGN = LIVE SET+. Done! Is there any reason why the simple solution is not being used?

BM,
I use the FC-300 for various controls, like switching scenes, master arp on/off, expression control etc. I also recently got a standard foot controller to do the super knob, as a MIDI foot controller cannot "grab" the current SK position. Ideally I wanted to keep the amount of foot controllers down. I play in a seated position and it's difficult enough to find what I'm looking for as it stands!

But if I was to get an FC5 to operate Live Set +, I don't have the ability to go back using Live Set -

The idea is that I might have two performances (or more) I use for a particular song and want to switch between them using SSS. Live Set+/- seems a good route to do that.

There are some expensive pedals that do MIDI and also have outputs for foot-switch type connections. So you can emulate a momentary/latch with one of these MIDI pedals.

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R

Jason,
I think even with a foot pedal that also has a foot switch output, I'm still limited to just Live Set+ or Live Set- as I cannot connect two.

I'm thinking I might try working with a Raspberry Pi connected between my MIDI foot controller and Montage. I can then customise MIDI messages any way I want. By keeping track of the current Live Set, I can send program changes to advance to the next one. Or I could do the same for Scene select. That way I could advance up and down with two buttons. Or could use an expression pedal to do it too i.e. foot fully down, go up. Heel down, go down.

Since you have far, far more Live Set than you can ever use, simply use LIVE SET+ ... you can simply repeat the items in the list so that all you need is the Advance. If you think you need to toggle back and forth between an acoustic piano and brass ensemble simple list piano, brass, piano, brass, piano, brass in a row... you don’t literally go back, but you advance to another step on your list.

That’s how it is supposed to work, unless you have an unnatural fear of running out of LIVE SETS.

BM - that's a very good point. I'm going to give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
