Testing of Patterns shows that if you use the 'Pattern -> Edit / Job -> Track -> Copy / Exchange' screen and select ALL for both 'Track' and 'Scene' the resulting pattern name will be the same as the source pattern name even if you specified a different target pattern before the copy.

  1. Go to the pattern screen Edit/Job -> Track -> Copy / Exchange
  2. Make sure 'Copy' is selected
  3. For source (top) pattern select the current or other existing pattern
  4. select Track=ALL and Scene=ALL
  5. For destination (bottom) pattern select any existing named pattern or unnamed (e.g. 031:(no data)
  6. Select 'Copy Track'
  7. Note the new name is identical to the source name and the destination name was ignored

Testing shows this only occurs when ALL is selected for both Track and Scene; for other track/scene parms it the resulting pattern has the name you specify.

I would prefer that even if you specify a target pattern name that you be prompted to confirm the name you choose and given an  opportunity to change it. On the M you can't really create a new pattern name. The choice of names in the dropdown will either be an existing pattern or for any of the 128 unused patterns the name will be of the form (for example) '031:(no data)'.

It seems to me that a user isn't really going to want to name their pattern '031:(no data)' so should be able to change it at the time the save happens. Currently you have to manually rename the pattern after the fact.

Has anyone noticed if this pattern name duplication occurs on the classic Montage or Modx?
