Just wondering why the master volume on many of the built in performances is set to a very low value,
for instance the CFX Grand Performance is set to 66 of 127.
I would like to have the hottest signal possible from the keyboard,
but I dont want to mess with this unless its there for a good reason.
I understand that some performances have different volume, just because the samples have lower volume,
and maybe a combination of different effect on the part and performance master effect.
Its nice to have the possibility to make the performances similar volume on live view.
I get that, but I though 66 out of 127 was a bit too low maybe? 🙂
Thanks
The Volume is easily adjustable. Thanks for the question.
A Performance like the “CFX Concert” has the Performance Volume set to a very conservative 66 out of 127. This invites the user to immediately start to create layers. There are several examples of the same “CFX Concert” layered with other sounds. You can have as many as 8 Parts under simultaneous Keyboard Control.
The conservative initial Volume gives you room to add (merge) other Parts to this Performance using it as a starting point.
If all sounds were stored with maximum Volume it would not invite combining and balancing. The bandwidth can be appreciated as you start to stack sounds.
If you wish to use the conservatively programmed “CFX Concert” live on stage, it is recommended you simply store the “CFX Concert” to a User Live Set location… and offset the Volume.
From the HOME screen, press [SHIFT] + [LIVE SET]
Tap a User Live Set location to place this program into a LIVE SET slot.
Tap the “Edit” box in the upper right corner of the LIVE SET screen
Set the Volume from 66 to whatever value you desire.
Live Sets allow you to store the Performance with the Volume Offset.
You can scream in the middle of nowhere or you can whisper in a library. Either will sound at about the same level given what's around.
Too low or high is a judgement call. I typically find myself remixing everything because I do not, at the gig, use any presets. I've assembled from Presets perhaps -- and then adjust my relative levels accordingly. If I feel something isn't "cutting through" from a particular gig then I may or may not adjust on the next gig. The starting levels of the presets is hardly of any consequence given I have to put my sound engineer hat on when I "master" my Performance.
If everything was literally the loudest it could be (everything at 127) then that would be worse. Everything blaring without any space. 66 is just a hair above the half way point. Seems like a reasonable starting point. You're free to change to your liking.
A set list with a preset is probably the easiest way to change the volume of the entire Performance without creating any new Performance. There's a provision to offset (increase or decrease) the Performance volume as a parameter inside each Live Set slot.
