This post, from Phil (Bad Mister) mentions MIDI 2.0 and future firmware releases in Montage. Not connected to each other - the broad context of the thread is a "sequencer" that wasn't yet released -- but later was. An optimist would see these as tea leaves.

Speaking of tea leaves - Phil says "MIDI 2.0 will be a reality soon! Step up!". He was right, Roland made it a reality for public consumption in a keyboard device. Maybe Yamaha is working on something Montage/MODX owners can benefit from.

Here's a gut statement about perhaps MIDI 2.0 being a stretch for Montage/MODX (this generation). I hope that notion is overly pessimistic.
