Just got my montage today and as a standalone mode I've been having some fantastic time with it. I just started trying to integrate it with Cubase 8.5 and all sorts of problem happened. When I monitor the sound coming out from Cubase's Midi Track (output routing set to Montage-1, MIDI Rec on DAW), the sound is very different from what I would hear from Standalone, local control on (without the DAW). Not only is the sound different, the velocity reacts kind of funny too. In Cubase with MIDI Rec on DAW, certain velocity strikes on keys wouldn't produce any sounds, random notes happen to sustain and etc.

Currently, two things that I changed in Cubase are: Unchecking SysEX and setting MIDI Clock Destinations to Montage-1.
Please help.

If you haven't already watched it, I suggest that you checkout this YouTube video titled Mastering MONTAGE: Cuebase Setup (Part 1) hosted by Phil Clendeninn where he demonstrates how to setup the MONTAGE for use with Cubase. Once I have my MONTAGE8, this video might even help me with my setup for Logic Pro X.

Here's the link: https://youtu.be/vvT6zXOb5W0e

I hope that this helps.

Yeah, yeah, that guy is so long winded! 🙂

If you are jumping in the deep end of the pool and starting by recording MULTI PART PERFORMANCES as MIDI, set the MIDI Channel on your Cubase Track = "Any"

This will allow the DAW to record each channel coming in and routes it back out on that same channel.

Recommended: Try working first with Single Part Performances... For example...
From the HOME screen on the Montage
Press [CATEGORY SEARCH]
Select "INIT"
Select "Multi/GM"

This will set you up with a Single instrument in each of the 16 Parts and you can begin to select instruments one by one.
When search for instruments, press [CATEGORY SEARCH] use the items for Bank, Attributes to focus your search.
For example, Set Bank to "Preset", set the "Attribute" to Single. This will endure that you are looking at just Single Part complete Parts. Parts that are full range, all velocities, etc.

Make sure your Montage is updated... Current firmware is version 1.11.x
Press [UTILITY] > Touch "Settings" > "System" the firmware appears on the bottom line.

In general, Multi Part (instrument) sounds, like "CFX + FM EP" are really designed to be recorded as audio. You can, of course, record them as MIDI data. You can opt to output this type of Performance on a single MIDI Channel, by setting the MIDI I/O mode to Single and selecting a channel 1-16.
