OS 3.0
Yamaha‘s year 2025 is characterised by the MONTAGE M:
Long before the official release of the Operating System
Update to Version 3.0 this summer, we are proud to present
the highlights of this Update.
Look forward to a firework display of innovations that more
than justifies the jump to the next Version number:
• New Waveforms “ClavD6”, sampled with different pickup
positions
• New VCM Effect “GS1 Ensemble & Tremolo” from the
Yamaha GS1
• New VCM Effect “CS Ring Modulator” from the Yamaha
CS80
• New VCM Effect “M/S EQ Compressor”
MONTAGE M OS V3.0
• Extension of the Scenes with the parameters “Note Limit”
and “Note Shift”
• Scene parameters can also be saved for Parts in “External”
Mode
• Additional Effect parameters accessible via Quick Edit
• Parameters from the AN-X and FM-X Engines as
Destinations in the Part LFO
• “Insert” function in the Live Set
• “Delete & Move” function in the Live Set
• DAW Remote extended to include ESP control
• New “SSS Time” parameter for seamless switching
of sounds
• Maximum number of Libraries increased from 16 to 24
• New “Ribbon View” Display variant
• New Performances programmed to feature the new function
ESP 3.0
The good news first: Version 3.0 of the Expanded Softsynth
Plugin for MONTAGE M contains all the new features of
MONTAGE M OS v3.0!
• Smart Morph for the two Synth Engines AN-X and FM-X
with full functionality
• Remote control of the Plugin from MONTAGE M
• Remote control of the screen parameters from any MIDI
controller
• Import of Songs/Patterns (previously a feature of the
MONTAGE Connect Plugin)
• FM-X “Algorithm Search” (filtering the Algorithms
according to certain criteria)
• “Copy/Exchange” Jobs for Parts, Elements, Oscillators,
Operators, Motion Sequences
• Mute/Solo for Elements, Oscillators, and Operators
• Choice of Performance Tempo (Tempo saved with the
Performance or DAW Tempo)
• Extended options in the File dialogue
• Display of the Oscilloscope in the Plugin’s header
I like the scene improvements. Participation in feature advocacy (ideascale, etc) pays off.
Looks like ESP is getting the much requested ability to respond to MSB/LSB/PC.
Effects are always interesting. Guess we can Dr. Who Montage with 3.0. GS effects are interesting. Wonder if this means GS algorithms will be added at some point. I don't see any indication FS1R noise or formants will be in the cards this go around.
I wonder if Yamaha is working on a stripped down MIDI controller that's a lightweight control surface/keybed for ESP throwing in poly at as also a way to get polyAT with the M6/M7 as an upsell capability and also a companion to ESP.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
The scene enhancements are going to take a lot of exploring and testing - the production guide has some good details
switching between Scenes is “seamless"
This could be a big one if the testing pans out. Changing scenes can cause some sound disruptions. Being able to save note ranges in scenes, coupled with scene changes being seamless raises som really interesting new performance capabilities.
I hope they were able to add a new performance with an audition that demos this.
There is also a new 'SSS Time' parameter
Permanent signals that do not have an ending
Release Time, e.g. from special Effects such as “Digital
Turntable” or the “Noise Level” of the VCM Rotary Speaker,
remain active beyond the first Performance change. The “SSS
Time” can now be set for such or similar cases.
The allows sounds to continue through multiple live set performance changes rather than cutting off when a second change is made.
Currently when you switch to a new performance SSS keeps certain sounds going but if you then switch to another performance those sounds get cut.
The 'time' switch lets you choose OFF or 0-30 seconds to keep sounds from being cut. Using OFF gives the current behaviour while using a time uses the new behavious.
The 'SSS Time' can be set globally on a utility screen but can also be specified individually for each live set entry. And it works for both local performance switches and those made via MIDI.
Looks like this is another one that will take some specific testing.
I am very excited about this update! Here's hoping that the keep coming for many years!
