Hi,
in Utility>Settings>Advanced I have set the Bank Select and Pgm Change Button to ON. But when I change a Performance Sound, there is no Miditraffic?
Whats wrong?
Thanks, Stefan
Where are you directing the messages USB or Out via MIDI?
USB, is that a difference?
Well, yes, of course. If you are connected to a computer via USB, but are looking for MIDI activity on the 5-pin MIDI jacks you won't see any, and vice versa.
What are you attempting to do?
If you wish to SEND a Bank Select and Program Change to an external device, you should use the Zone Master setup.
? I would like to record a Midi-Track in Cubase. And while i play the song, I switch to another sound preset on the montage. I would like to record this program change. Should this work only with a medicable connect? Is that a bug or a feature?
If you are to record anything with the computer, you need to use the USB cable -OR- a bluetooth transmitter connected to Montage's MIDI (DIN) ports and a bluetooth receiver on the computer. Assuming you are not using bluetooth, the computer needs to be connected to the Montage and the only way to do this (w/o bluetooth) is through a USB cable. Secondly, the Montage needs to be setup to output/input MIDI over the USB port (USB to Host port) which is a configuration setting. Always at the top of the screen, there is an icon which is either a circle with dots (MIDI port configuration) or the USB standard icon which looks sort of like a sideways pitchfork. This icon will show which mode you are currently set to.
Above is just "nuts and bolts" getting the computer integrated with the Montage. Program change is another topic which first relies on the above to be configured correctly. Moving along to program change ...
By default, none of the presets send a program change. You need to set this up for every performance. To do this, use zones. On the Montage - Under [UTILITY] "Settings" -> "Advanced", make sure "Zone Master" is ON. This will give the ability to make the next setting. Switch to whichever preset performance you want to issue a program change message (use category search). From the [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) screen, touch the large font area near the top which is the performance's name. On the left, you'll get options including "Property". Touch "Property" and jot down the MSB, LSB, and Program Change No. Press "OK" - you'll be back at the home screen.
Now add a PART in an empty slot by touching the [+]. You can really pick anything here (the Part Category Search), since we won't be using any of part presets for sound. The PART you just added should be selected - so press the [EDIT] button. Now, with the touchscreen (TS), press "Part Settings" -> "Zone Settings". Notice Zone is OFF - press it to turn ON. Touch "Transmit Channel" and change to the MIDI channel you want the program change information to be transmitted on (1-16). Now you will see other options for bank select and program change. These should both be ON for what you want to do. The others, volume and pan - can be turned off. Now fill in the information you jotted down earlier for the MSB LSB and program change number. Last, turn off the sound for this part - so it is strictly for sending program change information. To do this (same screen as MSB/LSB/PC) - make sure "Int Sw" is set to OFF. Be sure to [STORE] this modified preset with program change information to a new user performance.

oh, thanks a lot for your description. It works, but its not really user-friendly. So, we can say its not possible to search some sounds, record a midi track, play a little bit with different sounds and record all things. Its okay. I need to search my sounds in a performance before I record a track, and then play without spontaneous selection. Or record an audio track.
Thanks a lot for your answer!
I'm not aware of a global "automatic turn bank+PC message ON when changing preset performances" feature.
The flexibility is there - but there have been a few items where users have requested more global settings which will affect all performances rather than having to generate a user performance and program the result.
The other idea is instead use external hardware to change the performance first and record this hardware's MIDI message along with the MIDI out from Montage. This way, you would get to the same place with the expense of extra hardware. I say "expense" not strictly in monitory terms (because one solution is provided freely), but in bulk and perhaps overall complexity. By the way - this is a general statement. You're already using the PC - so there's no extra hardware in your case.
That said, you may find for what you want - leveraging external hardware leads to a more spontaneous and fulfilling experience. Even if you did have a global setting to force sending bank+PC messages.
