As far as load I use the self powered devices with the correct volt/watt range so there is no increased demand on the USB supply. Since the Montage screen is inoperable during use with the remote Dell monitor then even less power is in use by the montage. It would be wise to use a clean power supply like Furman and also surge protection so nothing unforeseen comes in the back door through the independently powered USB hub. I'm running on clean power with protection.

This is the greatest convenience feature on the Montage the Yamaha doesn't even promote it. Probably because it requires 3rd party components and electricity. This screen has exceptional response even better than the onboard screen I think. Maybe because it's so much easier to interact with. It's given the Montage new life in the studio since my Montage is on the bottom of a stack as you can see in the video. This makes it hard to read and touch. I can't move the Montage to the top because then I really can't reach the control surface.

Hello David - I use much the same set-up, Dell touch-screen, powered USB2 hub and a USB/VGA adapter - transformed my sessions! To make life even easier I made myself a 15" long stylo using aluminium tube to reach the Dell - no more leaning forward all the time. I've also learned the button-press equivalents to a screen-tap, so I don't need to put down and pick up the wand so often. Mind you, I don't gig, so it's a permanent studio set-up, but I can assure everyone afflicted with the little flat Montage screen that it's worth every cent of the cost. I don't understand why Yamaha don't promote this themselves, it hugely enhances the appeal of the Montage.

Hello Bubba - I had a good deal on the Dell monitor (from Amazon) around £70 off, so the whole set-up cost around £300 - say 350 Euros or 400 USD, but you might do better if you're in the US. I'd be willing to pay more (now I know it works!). Only a tenth of the cost of the Montage, and the result is far better than the Montage could ever be even with a Tyros tilt screen. I have the Dell dead centre of the Montage, right in front of me. Bliss!

Hello david - I didn't get any sound on your video when I was in my music-room, but thought it must be a glitch in my set-up there, but I'm now back on my main computer - and still no sound! No-one's mentioned this, but I've checked and your video settings and my computer settings are OK volume-wise - but not a peep! Do you know about this?

Yes there is no sound by design. I didn't want to bore anyone with my narration.

thanks very much for the discussion on the thread. i brought a second hand Dell S2240T for 740RMB (around 100USD) and the adapter from taboo.com (China's biggest e-retailer) for about 120RMB. it worked perfectly.

i recorded a youtube video to contribute back to the community.

the key learning for me is
1) use a USB hub so you can connect Video Adapter (In my case i used USB to HDMI) and USB touch screen signal to the MODX USB TO DEVICE portal.
2) do the screen calibration (hot keys Utility+Part Select Mute/Solo) every time you want to switch between using the external touch screen monitor or the internal touch screen monitor.
