I fiddled around with a MOXF and there are performances which are already "set up" for accompaniment style playing (a-la Tyros - play chords with the left hands and create your own "backing track" while soloing with the right hand).

I didn't find any of those in the Montage - I already understood how I can make some myself, but aren't there any ready made ones in various styles?

All such Performances in the MOXF are in USER memory (the hint being, you can make your own). The Montage is all about new concepts and ideas. You will find most, if not all, of the Arp phrases necessary to build your "a-la Tyros" Type left hand chord/right hand lead type Performances... and you can store hundreds of them on board.

Many of the factory Performance with two, three or four Parts, invite you to hit the "+" icon in those empty slots to add your own Drum groove (arp) and/or bass line... create the split points, and build up from what's given. All without ever hitting the EDIT button....

I think it was a conscious decision NOT to do that again with Montage Presets (notice the 1920 Performances provided by the factory are Preset - inviting you to build from them). That said, you can begin to build your own - if you come up with something you find useful and want to share with others, post it in a Montage Connect .X7B file (zipped).

I understand. Is there a list of such performances for the XF/MOXF where I can see the breakdown of the parts used, and which ARP & VOICE for each? so I can recreate some. browsing and matching through thousands of arps by myself without reference doesn't sound like fun.

Is there such a thing?

So you're saying, you'd pay for the converted data?
Or just that it doesn't sound like fun?

Programming your own Performances should be fun, (it's a synth, programmability is what you paid for) converting someone else's work, (agreed) doesn't not sound like fun. Why not just create your own?

Basically, because it's too much work.
I wanted to have "lots of" arp-y performances to inspire me.

I'm not much of a tinkerer. In the little time I have after work and daily life, I want to play, and not to search through hundreds of arps to find what fits best. not to mention, that some performances in the XF have much more than just drums and bass!

Yes, I would definitely pay for such a thing. a library fully loaded with performances using the Montage stock sounds, that would be awesome.

I love deep editing, but I love well programmed presets much more, they inspire me.

Is it something that anyone is thinking about?

Perhaps you should think about Tyros or PSR-S-Series which are designed for non-tinkerers and those who want well programmed Preset "Styles". And new stuff is in development so you can add to those provided.

Many of Arp phrases in the Motif, MO and Montage series synths come directly from these Arranger Workstation keyboards where are setup for quick easy access. In the synths, however, they are available (as individual separate phrases) to be mixed and matched in new creative ways. At Yamaha we certainly know how to assemble these into pre-made Styles for those with little time and too much on their plates from daily life. The sound quality of these Arrangers is stellar and have much of what you say you want much more.

Just a thought.

To answer your question, I'm sure someone is thinking about it, but there was no thought really to repeat the content as provided in the previous model. Those Performances in XF were all in User memory and the structure is different enough to not make this a simple "load them up" process. Once you realize it is a lot of work, and if you feel it has value, then I would imagine someone is thinking about tackling that mountain... I know of no officially announced plans, however.

Well, I have to say this about the subject -

I don't want another synth or an arranger, I'm not into arranging music much, but I like jamming a bit with myself from time to time.

Yamaha produced an amazing instrument with the Montage. Well done all around with suprb sounds.

There are already 10,000 arpeggios inside! I just think that Yamaha could have just went the extra mile and provide some nice performances that showcase them.

I'm not looking for a workstation, the features and information are already there. not everyone are programmers. and I don't want any synth other than the Montage right now..

There are actually more performances with ARPs than appear at first "listen" (avoiding saying "glance" - because the screen does show part ARP is ON).

Some have scenes which turn the ARPs on, but some do not. You need to press the master ARP button to turn these on. When you load a performance, look at the HOME screen for a blue/green box that shows ARP. If a PART has this - and you do not hear one playing - try pressing the ARP ON/OFF switch.

Note: such a general statement doesn't apply to everything - but I wanted to point out that there are cases where you need to turn on the ARP to hear it.

Certainly, once it's going you use the ARP select buttons to try variations.

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
