Re: Mastering your Keyboard Rig article...
In Montage/MODX terminology, what is a "Zone"?
In general, non-technical terms, what is its purpose, and what does its delineation and existence enable?
In Montage/MODX terminology, what is the "Zone Master" all about?
In general, non-technical terms, what is its purpose, and what does it enable, and what makes it a Master, and of what?
The article provides a monkey-see/monkey-do 'tutorial' but never simply takes a step back up to fully describe what these things are and what purposes they serve (nor how they should be more fully conceived and perceived) so as to empower the user's understanding and future utilisation of these features.

Bad Mister covers all of that in his 'Zone Master FAQ' article

Perhaps your osmosis absorption is good. If so, could you answer:

Without use of Zones in MODX/Montage, each Part will transmit what it does by default. Which means the MIDI channel that matches the Part number (in Multi mode) and the Volume/Pan/etc. information you may not want to transmit. When you recall a Performance you cannot send a custom Bank MSB and/or Bank LSB and/or PC to your external gear without Zones.
As stated in the article, Zones are about establishing a connection with external gear. That's when you'd want to employ Zones to break out of the defaults given to you by each Part.
Zones also allow you to switch on/off the internal tone generator routing which allows for you to have an "external only" Part.
With this issue, I would like to start a small series of guides on
combining instruments from the different series with the
help of the Master Mode. And in this case, quite deliberately,
without the integration of external hardware or software.
This is a little confusing. What they mean by "external hardware or software" is a PC/Mac/Tablet that itself would run software such as a DAW, plugins, or standalone software. They do not mean hardware in the sense of keyboard instruments.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R

Could you finish this sentence:
"A zone is a..."
?
You've only provided information about some of the things that can be done with a Zone - things that mostly presume an understanding and knowledge of what a Zone actually is.
What is a zone?
