No USB Sound on MacBook Pro

I’ve installed the driver on my MacBook Pro Yosemite 10.10.XX and restarted (and also on my Windows 7 machine).
When the USB cable is plugged in, it shows in the Audio MIDI Setup page, and I can select MONTAGE as a sound source for recording in my recording software (Audacity 2.0), but the Yamaha MONTAGE 8 never generates sound through the USB.

I do not have this problem on Windows 7—I simply plug in the USB cable and am able to record sound.
When I unplug the cable from there and plug it into my MacBook Pro there is no sound coming through from the device. This suggests that the Yamaha MONTAGE 8 itself is generating sounds, but they are being blocked on the Apple side.

I have restarted both the device and the MacBook Pro. In the Audio MIDI Setup page none of the volume sliders are available (can’t be clicked or moved). Most likely this is part of the problem, but I am not sure what to do.

What am I doing wrong?

No, the volume sliders in AudioMidi Setup have nothing to do with the setup.

I'm not familiar with the DAW you are using. But here is is a checklist:
The driver for Mac is the Yamaha Steinberg USB driver version 1.9.10

When using the Montage as an audio interface make sure your speakers are connected to main L&R outputs of the Montage.
In your DAW (Audacity 2.0) find the place where you setup the Audio options - that is where you will select the Montage's driver.

How many audio buses does your software allow?
Can you post a picture of the audio setup screen?

After making my previous post I left my MacBook Pro and continued on other things.
To respond to your post I plugged the USB back in and for completely unknown reasons it works now. I haven’t changed any settings etc. since then.

Thank you anyway.

It works because it is designed to work, 🙂 the 'completely unknown reasons' is why it didn't previously. Glad you are straight. Enjoy.
