Where is the article? Earlier today when I clicked on the link, it would ask me to sign in, but I was already signed in.

Now it says file not found.

And it's not showing up when I click on resources, above.

This site is SO slow and frustrating. Every single step requires waiting.

Agreed, it's not there, I get a 404 error when I click on the link above.

I just clicked on the link and got the article. Perhaps they fixed it. The other possibility is that since it's apparently a GoogleDoc (the URL is https://goo.gl/YTYQsc), your browser has to be logged into a Google account of yours.

The link is working now! I guess they fixed it. Not logged into Google.

I just worked through this article. Very informative. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

I ran into a glitch, though, that I think it would be beneficial to fix. Between the second and third screenshots, you're told to press PART SELECT 1/1. When I did this, I did not get the third screenshot. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong. The problem was that Display Filter was set to ModWheel instead of AsgnKnob 1. Once I fixed that setting, I got the exact screenshot. I think that either the Performance should be fixed to match the article, or the article should tell you to adjust the Display Filter setting.

(By the way, what does the "1/1" signify? Why isn't it just PART SELECT 1?)

I think I'm starting to "get" what they've done here with the Montage -- instead of setting the machine up and then playing that setup (like you could do with a Motif XF), this machine wants you to dance with it in real time in the space of possible setups. Very cool…

Just a thought Michael - There is only one part therefore it says 'press Part Select 1/1" meaning part 1 of 1, if there were 2 parts perhaps it would say Part Select 1/2 meaning part 1 of 2 and so on.

Peter

I ran into a glitch, though, that I think it would be beneficial to fix. Between the second and third screenshots, you're told to press PART SELECT 1/1. When I did this, I did not get the third screenshot. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong. The problem was that Display Filter was set to ModWheel instead of AsgnKnob 1. Once I fixed that setting, I got the exact screenshot. I think that either the Performance should be fixed to match the article, or the article should tell you to adjust the Display Filter setting.

If you are following along, you should not have had the ModWheel selected. Once you become aware of the AUTO SELECT function - hopefully you will figure out, on your own, that it should be selected. The instructions clearly state:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

β€’ In the screen select "Control" (left column of the screen) > "Control Assign" (second column)
β€’ Make sure the AUTO SELECT option is active
β€’ Move Assignable Knob #1 to recall its setting:

Here you can see that it is set: "Destination 1 = Part 1 Assign 1"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Changing the Program will not help... as the DISPLAY FILTER will show whatever you desire when you wish to view it... through the first two articles we introduce the AUTO SELECT feature as found on this CONTROL ASSIGN screen, because it is so very helpful. Please do these articles in order, as it assumes you are learning to use the tools as we go. I also write out the button pushes before introducing the SHORTCUTs (you don't appreciate them as a shortcut until you've walked a mile along the long route) πŸ™‚

By the way, what does the "1/1" signify? Why isn't it just PART SELECT 1?

The button is labeled PART SELECT 1/1 because the numbers depend on what you are doing at the time. Since the button is labeled "PART SELECT 1/1", I wrote that way. If I wrote it "PART SELECT 1" someone would write in saying that the button is actually labeled "1/1" - so as long as we are clear on which button, I'm happy.

There is a situation where that top row of buttons is strictly 1-8 - and the row below it is also PARTS 1-8. For example, for an 8 PART KEYBOARD CONTROLLED Performance; the top row is PART SELECT for 1-8 and the second row is PART MUTE for those same PARTs, 1-8.

There is another situation where the top two rows of buttons are for 16 PART Performance setups... in which case they are simply selecting PARTS 1-16. That's why the double numbering. In the article we are using the PART SELECT and PART MUTE for a Keyboard Controlled Performance where the maximum is 8 Parts. Make sense?

I went through the articles in strict order.

I just tried going through Article 3 again. I started by initializing user memory and then turning off my Montage. So, presumably it came up in a very clean state. Then I loaded the example file. Here's what I did as I followed the article:

Selected the "Super Knob Unipolar+" Performance.

Went to the Home Screen.

Pressed [EDIT].

The PART [COMMON] button was already lit.

In the screen, I touched Control. In the column to the right, Control Assign was already lit.

In the screen, Auto Select was turned off. I turned it on.

The screen was already showing Assignable Knob 1. I turned the knob anyway.

Pressed [PART SELECT 1/1].

The screen showed Part Settings -> General.

I needed to touch Mod/Control -> Control Assign to get to the display shown in the third screenshot. Auto Select was showing green at this point. The lower [COMMON] button was lit.

But the screen showed settings for ModWheel at this point, not settings for AsgnKnob 1.

I was able to get to the settings for AsgnKnob 1 by either turning Assignable Knob 1 (because Auto Select was turned on), or by selecting AsgnKnob 1 in the Display Filter field.

So I think I've verified the glitch I reported earlier. If I'm getting too nit-picky, let me know and I'll stop. But I was somewhat confused when I got to the wrong display even though I was following the directions carefully. I suspect I won't be the only one…
