My montage is saying that my sample memory is effectively 'full' (1.7 v 1.8GB)

However I only have about 490mg (7 wav file backing tracks) of imported waveforms used so I'm assuming its another area that is using up all the sample memory.

I need to load some more waveforms so what else should I potentially delete to free up more space?

I took a full backup yesterday so I'm assuming I can always reload anything I've deleted when & if I ever need it...yes?

Thanks

You total memory is the addition of all User memory, especially Waveforms (which are typically the largest) + Libraries that you have loaded. Performances, Arps, Songs, Patterns, Live Set, etc., also add to the total, but those usually don't take up much memory compared to Waveforms and Libraries that you have loaded.

Go to Utiltiy > Contents > Data Utility and check all the 8 types of data that make up the total memory used.

Those 7 wav files may be using more memory than you think if you've loaded them as a Library, imported to the user bank, and otherwise have scenarios where you could have duplicates of these. Duplicates are not necessarily going to happen but there are actions that require cleanup when shuffling data around.

Otherwise, libraries installed (if any) can be using the remainder of the memory.

OK...thanks.....have now deleted the 'Chick V' library which has freed up some space.

If memory serves me right, I had to delete the Bosendorfer Piano library as that was taking up lots of space and I hardly used it. If you do have that installed and don’t use it, that should free space up πŸ™‚

The promotional Bosendorfer library specs:

Data size is ~400 MB

Not all libraries will cost you 400ish MB. The set of Motif XF Performances for MODX doesn't use samples and therefore would be considered "0MB".

Interesting! So, I know many libraries are not compressed, as they aren't created using Yamaha's proprietary compression algorithm. However, it appears that certain Yamaha resale partners are able to work with Yamaha to have their libraries compressed. such as the 'Chick Corea' library..!?

Was the Bosendorfer library done using Yamaha's proprietary compression?

The Bosendorfer set appears to be first party. I imagine this is compressed.

My understanding is that some content providers have the keys to the city, so to speak, and therefore are able to produce compressed libraries. Easy Sounds is one such partner. I suspect their libraries are compressed.

"Montage Expanded" is said to be a collaboration between Easy Sounds and Cool Webinars (HaPe's). This is released by Yamaha so maybe it's their involvement that adds the compression - the library is said to be compressed. When I look at random Easy Sounds released libraries - they don't spec any compression. I don't think this necessarily means no compression - but it's not so easy to determine (I'd have to crack open the Waveforms and look to see if any compression is employed. Melas's tools - even the free demo - allows for looking at this).

All of this said - various content providers have mentioned the existence of tools that are used and it is more-or-less confirmed that 3rd party content providers have some form of access to compression that the general public does not have.
