Can i do the same thing with midi? Instead of USB,
https://www.yamahasynth.com/resources/setting-up-montage-with-mainstage
I am trying to trigger mainstage using my montage, I want to use the piano sounds from the montage and then some electric sounds via mainstage for live performance. I am running into an issue when trying to control the volume of the sounds in montage, and the volume of the sounds via mainstage. Do you know of a setting that will disable the faders in the montage from controlling mainstage track volume (these are done by default). Thank you for your time, I am using MIDI instead of USB though, thinking this shouldn't be too different than the instructions from your article.
Anytime you connect the MONTAGE via MIDI to control external devices you should use the Zone Master function to determine and control what is being sent OUT.
The Zone Master function is activated globally on the [UTILITY] > βSettingsβ > βAdvancedβ
Once switched ON, you will see two additional parameter screens in each PART of your Performance. βZone Settingsβ and βZone Transmitβ... it is here on a per Part basis you can determine what is sent Out via MIDI from each active Part.
Each KBD CTRL or individually selected Part can be set to trigger an Internal MONTAGE Part (INT SW = ON), and/or it can set to transmit Out via MIDI on the selected channel, 1-16. If you donβt want a slot to transmit Out via MIDI simply leave the Transmit Out switch Off
Mainstage/Montage
I'd like some advice on the following. I've been using the Montage 7 now for over a year and would like to incorporate a newly purchased Macbook Pro and Mainstage with my setup. Any help on the following would be greatly appreciated.
I'd like to be able to quickly switch from song to song within Mainstage utilizing a stereo backing track (which I've recorded), and send patch changes to the Montage.
View lyrics for songs
Change songs via Montage buttons/switches without touching the computer during performance
*** Have backing track assigned to the assignable stereo outputs on the Montage so that using the master volume slider on the Montage does NOT affect the volume of the backing track (only the sounds played live).
Use alpha dial to scroll through songs/performances & press control assign button to start backing track?!?
Thank you sir,
So i found a way to use mainstage with montage without having the faders control the parts 1-8 basically. What happened as a result though is now i can't use the faders as assignable.
I've been able to accomplish this using usb or midi assigned montage to part 1 and outputting using montage then via my audio interface.
I would like the ability to use montage as a controller and still be able to use its faders to control parts (external instrument in mainstage, as well as an internal instrument) basically like layering.
Any suggestions?

Really, if one wants to use Montage alongside Mainstage... never mind Logic... (in any capacity) one does not need a Montage. Totally redundant; any decent 88 key controller and Mainstage will blow the doors off of my Montage. But what on God's green earth would I know? Owning all the above mentioned... and btw I was the first to report the dead front panel bug which BM ignored on the forum but yes it was fixed...
Just drop a killer sequencer into 2.5
Or ignore the lifetime long Yamaha users like me.

So what you're saying is easy, you don't have the answer? I understand you're sentiments however, I prefer having options. I own lots of softsynths and would like the ability to use them easily with my montage. If you think its redundant that's respected however, if you don't have an answer don't make general statements without facts to my question, thank you for moving on, Respectfully.

Followed the tutorial here but donβt have any control over external volume levels from Mainstage, and also program changes arenβt working.
What to do?
Provide us with what you want to accomplish exactly. Sounds like your issue is with knowledge about Mainstage.
What Performance do you wish to recall?
What version firmware are you running?
What version of the YSUSB Driver are you running?
Provide us with what you want to accomplish exactly.
Setting up Mainstage/MODX8 so that the MODX8 functions as an external instrument within Mainstage, with MODX8 recalling Performances at the request of Mainstage.
Sounds like your issue is with knowledge about Mainstage.
Maybe. Or this new audio soundcard implementation within the MODX.
Or both.
What Performance do you wish to recall?
Any one I choose.
What version firmware are you running?
1.10.0
What version of the YSUSB Driver are you running?
The latest.
Obviously Iβm referring here to the MODX8 instead of the Montage, but as these instructions are only available for the Montage and both machines are very similar, I assume that the rules are the same for both.
However if weβre discussing drivers etc then Iβm very happy for this discussion to move to the thread I started on the MODX forum at
https://www.yamahasynth.com/ask-a-question/modx-with-mainstage-audio-and-program-changes
So, with a bit of help on the MODX forum, this tutorial should be updated to advise that Direct Monitor should be switched OFF.
This is accessed from
Utility
Settings
Audio I/O (assuming Montage OS is the same as MODX)
The tutorial works ok but in order to use an External Instrument Channel Strip properly within Mainstage, you will need to switch Direct Monitor OFF to avoid phasing issues.
Iβve made a video explaining every step (including patch/performance changes) at
https://youtu.be/OK1qszFLFf4
Irvin, i watched your video on youtube and it works fine for me. The thing is I can't assign MODX's faders to control the faders in MAINSTAGE, and no buttons to control NEXT PATCH or PREVIOUS PATCH. I can assign the Super Knob and the other 4 knobs, but that's not enough. Not even the Master Volume...
Is there any solution for that?
