I love the Montage and it's sounds but one of the most missed sounds, for me, is a Duduk. It's one of the most used sounds in movies. I still hope that Yamaha will includes a Duduk in one of there updates. It would be nice if Yamaha make some more Ethnic sounds available.

Untill the do. Is there a sollution to get a Duduk in de Montage and if yes were can I find it and how do I get it into de Montage.

Regards Han

One of our Technical Specialist, Heratch, did a video series, using the Duduk as the example. It was how to take a series of .wav samples, using Cubase AI, and then exporting them to the John Melas Waveform Editor, where he creates a Motif XF Waveform that can be loaded to the instrument.

The same routine could be done with the MONTAGE or MODX as the target. In fact, the Motif XF version would load to the MONTAGE. This is not a video tutorial on ‘how to sample’, per se, it’s a ‘how to create a Waveform’ (the technical term, Yamaha uses for a collection of Samples mapped across the key range and mapped to respond to velocity input) and ultimately create a file that is compatible with the Synthesizer. You may find it of interest because when instruments are not covered in the Factory Presets, being able to create the data yourself is a viable possibility. Either way the video series is enlightening on several levels. It even covers Cubase AI activation.

As to the company creating specific Libraries, thank you for taking the time to express your interest. I’m not privilege to future plans for such sound banks, but your interest is noted.

Please see this link to the video series

Thanks Bad Mister for giving me the information. Looking now to the video series. Do you know if I can obtain the Motif or Montage Sound of the Duduk somewhere?

Regards Han

Hi Han:

There are other ethnic performances you may want to try as a starting point. These are close cousins of the double reed Duduk - the Mey from Asia and the Balaban from Azerbaijan and Iran. There are several different performances on my Montage, some of which I may have downloaded from an optional ethnic instruments library. Perhaps some others on the board can steer you to where this library can be found. Good luck!
