USB Audio Interface - PC with Cubase

Using my new Montage with Cubase 8. I have been using a firewire audio interface up to now with some digital optical and s/pdif ins on other synths.

If I understand correctly, on the PC (but not Mac) you can only have one audio interface active at one time.

In order to stay in the digital domain with the Montage, I have to give up my current interface with all my other synths in order to get digital into the box using only the Montage. Is this correct?

I tried ASIO4ALL, but that software doesn't see the audio in's on my firewire system, only the audio outs.

Any possible solutions or suggestions?

If I understand correctly, on the PC (but not Mac) you can only have one audio interface active at one time.

But you can "hot swap" interfaces mid Project. This means you do not have to close the Project just simply ask Cubase to switch drivers.
Go to DEVICES > DEVICE SETUP > VST AUDIO SYSTEM > change the ASIO Driver

Not sure of your particular workflow, but record with your other interface and then switch drivers when you are ready to record Montage or vice versa.
Otherwise get a Macintosh - there, as you seem to know already, you can build your own Aggregate Audio device that includes all your audio interfaces - and allows each to function. But be warned that even when you might think this is heaven, in practical home recording situations concentrating on recording one thing is usually the best way to work. (Again, your mileage will vary greatly based on how you like to work).

If you require to record through your other interface at the same time you record Montage keyboard you'll need both... But overdubbing some parts after the basic music tracks are recorded, for example, is as old as Les Paul's original idea. 🙂

Good tip, will approach it that way. Was thinking changing audio devices that way was a recipe for disaster, but it seems to work fine.

Thanks BM!

So...why don't create a Montage Connect plugin (like Virus TI) that bring the audio of the montage inside the daw ? so I/we can use our best soundcard and the montage togheter ? somtimes happen that when I change the audiocard on the run I loose the oinput/output channel settings....

That is no one's fault. Making settings is like learning how to cook... put water in the pot before you put the vegetables. Learn to use your DAW's ability to store your setups, so you only have think about it once.

Oh yesss I konw, save setings for input and output, but maybe sometimes the problems are in the track....or my version of nuendo is a litle dated.....but you must admit, a plugin that take 16 stereo channels from Montage and put it into the daw will be the best !
