With 8 library files, OS and firmware updates and full data backups now available, what would be a wise choice regarding size when purchasing a USB flash drive for Montage?
Hello Louis - I use two USBs for Montage - one an old 2Gb that is exclusively used for updates, and the other a 16Gb that is used for back-ups and everything else. There is also a third one that lives in the computer that carries things like manuals and procedure notes (for all my synths) and any associated items that are computer based. My monitor is switchable between Montage and the computer, which is very handy as my memory isn't faultless and I have 3 different synth systems to cope with (Montage, Tyros, and Korg).
I have an old 2 GB laying around. Maybe I'll just pick up a larger one as you mention for backups. Thanks Rod.
Not knowing the addressing limits of Montage, I have recommended 4GB (USB 2.0 only) max in the past. This keeps the address to 32 bits. Also, there is a memory technology difference possible beyond 4gb. This is a guideline for "any old random stick".
However, it would be best to consult the approved list as these sticks have been tested by Yamaha to meet all operational needs.

Consult the Montage product page for latest list.
You will notice the drive size is not limited to 4gb in this list.
Also, "4gb" in this message should be regarded as 4 gigabyte (not gigabit).
