Hi, I´m very pleased with the new DAW remote control function, very useful, but play, rec and rewind is really all I can think of that I need.
what else can you assign in cubase that´s going to be of use and work well from the keyboard?
I need suggestions 🙂

You may want to start with the "new features" documentation included with Firmware v2.50.

montage_en_nf_v2.50_f0.pdf, page 5:

In track mode, assignable knobs 1-4 will be MIDI track pan, knobs 5-8 will be Audio track pan. Sliders will act as track volume. Scene buttons (1-8) will act as function keys F1-F8. Number A [1]-[8] (the top row of 8-buttons on the grid at far-upper-right of the keyboard) will act as track select. Number A [9]-[16] (2nd row) will act as track mute. Number B [1]-[8] (3rd row) will act as track solo. Number C [1]-[8] will act as rec enables. ... you can read the rest for this mode.

This video (Moessieurs) has some more information: https://youtu.be/oNvSx68WwMc?t=383

... as you can see, you can use the data dial and cursor keys to navigate.

"Track mode" makes the most controls available for transport (Port 2) controls.

I looked at all of this but I just don´t see why I would need to control all this from the montage. pans and volume and so on, I will deal with later after recording. I guess maybe I really just need rec play and rewind 🙂

Some like to use controls on their keyboard to adjust DAW settings rather than relying heavily on a mouse / keyboard.

As a side note - Stephen Kay has mentioned that Karma for Motif could not be "ported" to Montage due to lack of transport controls. I wonder if the Montage transport controls are sufficient for Karma or not. Although unrelated to DAW control - it may be another benefit of this new feature. I haven't yet seen anyone mention or follow-up on Karma.

It’s actually a very good question and one that is frequently asked. It can vary with the situation. I think the important thing is to lose the fear of configuration. Doing so will allow you the freedom to get creative should the need arise.

Example, you may find yourself in a situation where you are doing an Overdub session with a friend sitting in. Overdub recording can come with its own set of demands. During this session you might need to setup a situation where you are repeating certain moves again and again to accommodate the performer... routing signal, arming tracks, recording, rewinding to a specific location, punching in at a specific place, recording, punching out... applying effects, playing back, keeping each take, repeat... with a guest it might be 10 or 20 takes... you may find the repeated moves suggest automating some things - this is where you can get creative. If you are unafraid of how to Assign things you may find a few quick key setups come in handy and having immediate access to particular parameters is handy for *this* situation. Some times it is the situational need that dictates exactly what you do...

Don’t feel obligated to setup a bunch of things you may never ever use... work them into your workflow as they become necessary. Step through the process of making an assignment so that the process is clear. The mistake that many new users or first time users make is thinking there is some one setup that *everybody* uses. It’s a toolkit that once you know how it fundamentally works you can go and get and use when you need it. There are literally too many things you *could* Assign... what you windup doing is really a personal choice dictated by the current situation.

Cubase lets you store your different configurations as Presets. Knowing how to create and recall these is where you want to get to. Take your time... there is no shortcut to experience. The more sessions you do, the more things you try, the better you get. But if you never explore the basics of how to setup, you never get to the point where you let the situation guide you to the things you setup for Remote Control.

In the new Remote functions, highlighting the the “TRANSPORT” option may be exactly all you need, initially - giving you access to remote transport control and whatever you desire on the internal MONTAGE engine.
