Hello!

First of all, sorry for my English!

I have a question, let's see if someone can solve it.
I use Montage 7 connected to an external keyboard. The idea is to have a performance to play the first 8 parts locally in the Montage, and send the parts 9-16 to the external keyboard, so far so good, no problem, but I can't get Sustain on the external keyboard, that is, if I press the sustain pedal (connected on Montage) it works in the Montage, but not on the external keyboard, I don't know what I do wrong, or I don't know if it is possible!
Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!
Regards

If the external keyboard is sending MIDI to the montage to control parts 9-16 then any sustain has to come from the external keyboard.

You are describing using Montage as your master controller and an external keyboard as a slave. You want the Montage to send MIDI to this external keyboard so playing notes on your Montage will be sent to an external keyboard so the external keyboard will make sounds (be used as an external tone generator).

My understanding is you want Parts 1-8 to be used for internal Montage sounds (so you locally can use the Montage tone engines to make sound) and then you want Parts 9-16 to be used to send MIDI data to your external keyboard.

If that's right, then I'm surprised the sustain pedal is your only problem. I would think that notes don't work either unless you first select one Part in the range 9-16. And, in this case, you'd only have one Part you can control at a time.

If your external keyboard will work with a single MIDI channel and there is no need to send multiple MIDI channels, then I would use Part 8 for external control. Then Parts 1-7 for your internal sounds. The reason for this is that you can have a dedicated Part for external control that has Keyboard Control turned on. None of the Parts 9-16 allow or turning on keyboard control. When Keyboard Control is turned off, the piano keys and controllers are ignored unless the Part with Keyboard Control as OFF is selected. Placing the Part for external control in Part 8 allows for you not to have to select any Part since keyboard control can be left ON for this Part.

You don't have to do it exactly this way. You can have any Part in 1-8 play an internal sound and also send MIDI to the external keyboard. The only problem comes in when there are limitations you want to set on the external keyboard (key ranges, etc) that are not compatible with any of the Parts already in 1-8. However, this way you wouldn't "burn" any Part(s) for controlling the external keyboard.

I think you already know and are using zoned control - so I didn't get into that although zones would be used.

EDIT 9/26: Fixed "external controller" references to "external keyboard" which more closely matches what you described.
