Changing the sample speed by the tempo speed?

Hi there,
I was wondering if it's possible to change the playback speed of a sample by the tempo or any of the controllers available on MOTIF? (I remember there is also a special delay effect -I guess- but not sure if that can do it or how I can do it...)

Helping on it is MUCH appreciated.

The Motif XF features several different ways to do this. Which one will work best will depend on the nature of the data you are attempting to work with.

These tools include:
TIME-STRECTCH - Lets you change the length of the Sample without changing the pitch. (There is also CONVERT PITCH which changes the pitch without changing the tempo)

Sample SLICE - This lets you divide the Sample into separate slices - that can be assigned to each of the keys in ascending order - a chromatic sequence is created to trigger playback of the slices. Like still pictures flipped fast in front of a camera is how cartoon animation is done, SLICE is the equivalent for audio samples. This is ideal for audio clips of 1-8 measures in length. This allows you (when properly sliced) to playback an audio clip at any tempo without losing the integrity of the sound and adjust your audio with the same flexibility you do MIDI data.

See the REFERENCE MANUAL pages 132-134

Thanks Phil. I'm planning to use it for the tremolo played on an acoustic instrument. I have every note sampled but I want to control over the tremolo speed. If I use slice how can I use it in simulating an instrument? Should I spread the sliced samples among different elements and use the XA?

Here is the link to one of the samples (E3):

Tar_E3_Tremolo

The tremolo is played fast for the song tempo I want to play. Would you please guid me about the possible solutions to somehow relate the tremolo speed to the tempo speed or controlling it?

***BTW: I do have logic pro and I can modify the samples there but If I can control the tremolo speed to some extent in MOTIF that would be great!

Well, if it is not a musical phrase (audio clip) slicing would not be appropriate. If I understand you this is a set of samples mapped across the keyboard that you are playing as an instrument, not an audio clip...

In that case, you would need process each sample. The easier way would be to use MIDI to generate the Mandolin 'tremolo', because it's built to handle changing timing without changing speed.

To do this with a pre-recorded Mandolin trill... That much processing is probably best done on your computer DAW.
You could create a Sliced Waveform that included a time slice for each individual note - this way you could control the spacing/timing between events with pitch artifacts.

Yes Phil I'm creating a VOICE out of the samples and tremolo is a layer. I didn't properly understand what you exactly mean by Mandolin 'tremolo'. Do I have to slice the tremolo sample into individual notes? And if so, how should I arrange them in a VOICE? Should every note represent an element? I remember a Mandolin-tremolo sound in the "inspiration in a flash" library which was using Arpeggiator for creating the tremolo. Is it possible if you explain it a bit more? Thank you!
