Hello, I have a P90 and a Motif Rack XS that I would like to use together live.

The P90 has 14 "Voice" buttons that send out fixed Bank and PC messages (the manual does not indicate the ability to change them). Unfortunately the Bank MSBs and LSBs do not match any of the User Banks on the Motif. When I press one of the "Voice" buttons on the P90 it seems like the Motif ignores the Bank (MSB and LSB) and selects the corresponding PC# in Preset 1 Bank. Since the Preset banks are not writable on the Motif I can't assign the Voices I would like to use.

Is there a midi mapper function in the Motif, should I buy a HW mapper (ex. Midi Solutions Event Processor), or is there another solution to this problem?

Thanks!

Hi Justin,

Yes, you will need to get something that will allow you to remap what is sent by the P90, to something you want to use in your Motif-Rack XS. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the item you mention.

Depending on your specific application /reason for doing this, you could use any number of devices or programs to do the job. If you're on stage and want to minimize the footprint of your solution, then a hardware device would seem the route... If your demands allow for a computer then a software solution is possible. You may want to consult your local music store MIDI specialist.

In the Motif-Rack XS, you can address the unit with MSB/LSB that select an entire Multi, but you can also individually address a single Part on each MIDI Channel. If you need help using these let us know.

Thanks for the information Bad Mister. Unfortunatly when we play live we do not have a computer onstage. I will ask around at the stores in the area and see what HW options are out there. So far I have not used the Motif-Rack XS in Multi mode but if questions pop up I will be sure to check the Forum.

Thanks again!

Hey Justin,

If you can find a Yamaha MEP-4, get it! This unit was the ultimate midi event processor ever made. It will do anything and everything your midi application requires.
