Apologies for starting a new thread for what is really a continuation of my previous one, but with the way the forum is, I'm not really sure if anyone is seeing my follow up posts. I thought I had figured it out. But the problem returns. Here it is:

when I'm on a midi channel that is linked to the motif either as a midi track or as an external instrument, if I switch to another track, say another vsti or an audio track, the volume of whatever patch is selected on the motif drops down to zero. I don't just mean that I can't hear the sound. I mean that I can see the Image of the fader in the motif drop down to zero. This happens whether I am using voice mode or song mode. I don't understand how this can be happening? Is control change data being sent from cubase to the motif?  How? is there a setting I can change to filter unwanted midi data. I couldn't find any. I looked in utilities on the motif, and I looked in preferences in cubase. Just seems weird.

Copied from other thread: this is Cubase Pro 13 (Windows).

Saw your post before but the remote finding seemed you solved it for yourself.

I'd probably just try cutting to the chase and asking for a zip of your Cubase project and connect my Motif XF7 to see what's going on.  Easier to trace it down (for me) than listing places to check.

I don't have pro 13 but I'm pretty sure I could trial pro 14 for long enough to figure it out.  And 14 should load 13 projects fine.

Usually stuff like this shows up in a MIDI track but there could be other places to look.

Jason, much appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't even see your post until I checked the forum in Firefox instead of Safari.

anyway…

I found that the volume dropping problem went away when I disabled a midi remote script I had added for the motif. I had set up the motif in master mode, using this:

https://rockinghorsemusic.wordpress.com/using-the-motif-xf-as-a-controller/

Then I was able to map the XF faders and pan knobs to quick controls and some pre-fader functions, like high and low pass filters, pregain, etc.

I couldn't figure out how any of that could possibly cause control change data to be sent to the motif.

i'll look into the zip sharing. Would that be in the motif manual?  I would be interested in what you could find out.

Thanks,

David

Please post the Midi Remote Script. You didn't mention what is in that script.

Well, I was asking for the project file in cubase to be sent.  Right now I have Cubase 12 installed on my mac.   Boy have things changed since the last time I tried to do all of this.  Since the e-licenser has been retired it seems like all of the older support utilities don't work anymore.  They don't automatically update (on Mac) so I had to manually download the latest then "fix" a bunch of things to kickstart them to start working.  Mostly let the new version load and error out in different places and restart or relogin to the webpage and let the webpage re-establish some token files to the new application.   Right now the newly updated "Download Manager" says it is updating the "Steinberg Activation Manager" but this thing is stuck.

... and this got stuck because I began by starting Cubase 12 which launched the e-licenser, got stuck, launched some other stuff that didn't work.  Then I manually downloaded something new and started that -- but "that" (download manager) got stuck updating because Cubase needed to be restarted but the download manager doesn't tell you this.  It just gets stuck.  OK ...  Glad all of this is easier now.

After quitting Cubase some stuff did get updated.  Ok - I'll try restarting Cubase 12.  No dice - maybe it's on my computer because I was using a trial.  I do have Cubase 12 AI.  At least all of that rig-a-maroo fixed, in general, my licensing software chain.

I do have Cubase LE AI Elements 13.0.51 available to me -- so this should be relatively close to your Cubase 13.  Installing this ...

Ok ... load it up.  Allow network access (OK) ... Allow access to documents folder (OK) ... Allow access to microphone (I guess - OK) ... And, we're up.  Create empty.

So, under "File" I would pick "Back Up Project ...".  It defaulted to my "Documents" folder - which is "OK" but requires an empty folder which Documents is not.  So I created a new folder under Documents called "Cubase_Backup_Example" and selected that folder.  All is well, now there's a window that allows to tell Cubase what exactly to backup ...

I kept the defaults which checked "Keep Current Project Active" (which I imagine doesn't touch the current project or else unchecking this would think you want to archive it away and remove the project) and also checked "Do Not Back Up Video" which shouldn't apply anyhow.  And all the rest were unchecked.

For the project name I filled in "Example_Backup" but you can put anything in here that makes sense.

This created a .cpr file.  And to attach it here I'd think you'd have to zip it up first.  At least the old forum wouldn't allow attaching random extensions and needed them to be some kind of image (graphic) file or a zip file.  And it didn't even like uppercase ZIP before.  Not sure what the new forum likes or doesn't like.

EDIT: this reply took only 5 seconds between "Send" and the system confirming it was sent.  Improvement over my first other message elsewhere.

Got this loaded but first tried AI and there's a lot of missing features using AI.  I did download the trial version of Cubase Pro 14 so I have some limited time to look at this since Pro 14 works fine for importing earlier projects.

I didn't have the Motif XF connected so some things may not be representative.  I'll hook up the Motif XF soon.  Retrologue wasn't originally part of my setup but I added it.  Pianoteq isn't part of what I have and I don't think that matters any.  I'll just leave it out of the mix.

Thanks for sending.
