I've been sequencing on a Motif ES6 for eleven years and love it. Is it time for me to update to a Motif XF? Is it a hard transition? Any new learning curves? Thanks..........JO

Yes, there are. But the good news is you can apply 100% of what you've learned in operating the ES to the Motif XF... there is just simply more, much more stuff!

The Motif ES (2003-2007) was a four Element Voice architecture, by the time the XF arrived in 2010 the Motif -series feature an eight Element architecture. The additional Elements formed the backbone of what is called XA CONTROL or Expanded Articulation Control.

This XA CONTROL allows the performer to recall different Waveforms on demand to broaden the palette of musical expressions available. You can seamlessly change the sounding Element, sonically invisible to the ear, so that instead of just velocity switching you can pull off transitions in the Waveform recalled. If you play legato, for example, a Waveform without the attack portion is seamlessly knitted onto the original Element. You can with an Assignable Function Switch recall pitch scoops, fall-off, harmonics, finger noises, etc, on demand.

Each Motif more than doubled the available Wave ROM of the previous - so you will experience a more than four times increase in the available Wave ROM from 175MB to 741MB.

Things that were volatile (disappeared when you powered down your ES) you will find can remain in memory on the XF... Although younshould still endeavor to make backup files of your work. The use of volatile DIMMs for samples was replaced by a non-Volatile Flash Board system that lets you add some 4,096 Waveforms of your own choosing to the 3,977 Waveforms in Preset R (or up to 2GB of custom data, whichever comes first).
