Hey guys 🙂

I`m using a motif XF6 and Motif XF editor(version 1.6.4) with Cubase 8.I compose my tracks using the editor with motif XF in song mode which is really great. But there is this weird issue when im working the editor.
It works well with cubase and the motif XF but sometimes(Not all the time) after closing the editor and cubase software when i try to play the keyboard does not matter what i do,Im not getting any audio signal from keyboard. Not even from head phone out.Sometimes this can be fixed by turning the keyboard off and on but sometimes i have to reset the keyboard. But if i open the editor again then it produces audio.Monitor setup or any other setting on the keyboard has not help me with this so far.I wonder if the audio routing on the keyboard or something get messed up when its paired with the editor
Can someone please help me with this?

Sorry for my bad english

We would be happy to help you. What is happening is this: when you setup the Motif XF with Cubase and are using the Editor to "represent" the XF on the computer... the EDITOR helps you direct XF signals, both MIDI and Audio, through Cubase. Audio and MIDI routing is interwoven with Cubase. Signal goes from the XF to the computer, the computer then sends audio to the audio interface which feeds your speakers. You've literally placed the computer in the signal path. Instead if feeding audio directly to the outputs as would be normal... you are routing the signal to the computer before returning it and sending it to the speakers. Instead of Key press messages triggering the XF tone generator directly, they are sent as MIDI messages to a Cubase MIDI Track... the MIDI echoes the signal back to the XF tone generator.

when you then close Cubase you must remember that you have removed the center portion of the bridge. You must now return your Motif XF to normal (stand alone) condition

In [UTILITY]
Press [F5] CONTROL
Press [SF2] MIDI
Make sure LOCAL CONTROL = ON

This reconnects the XF Keyboard with the XF Tone Generator.

Then on the audio side of things: you don't mention in your post anything about how you are connected for audio, but if you are using the XF as your audio interface, make sure you reset the FireWire Monitor = "stand alone"

[UTILITY]
Press [F2] I/O
FW MONITOR SETUP = stand alone

If it is set to "with pc" then Audio can only pass when the computer is placed in the circuit. It is just simple Signal Flow.

Hope that helps. If you are not using the XF FireWire option, let us know...

Thank u so much for the quick reply it was really informative and It worked!
Local control in midi was off so i just turned it on as you said and now im getting audio in the stand alone mode 😀

I dont use the firewire option.I just do everything via USB.I was just wondering if its possible to use the all 8 stereo audio return ports in the editor in USB mode. This is my current setup

Motif main audio output => Audio interface(input 5 and 6)

Those 8 stereo audio returns are the FireWire audio returns.
The Motif XF does not send audio via USB, this is why I asked about FW.

Setup the driver for your audio interface in the VSTi Setup... You can set the Driver for that device on the first slot.
The screenshot you posted is where you connect the driver to Return audio... you would select your interface 5 for Left, 6 for Right... as you have set. Those indicate *where* XF audio is coming from. You have only connected two outputs. You only get one stereo pair.

If you have another two inputs available on your interface, connect two more 1/4" cables to the XF's Assignable L&R Outputs, and set the second pair of Returns in the VSTi SETUP. That's maximum number of analog outputs.
