Hello there,

I just purchased an XF8 and a MacBook Pro. The sales person at Sam Ash indicated that this workstation comes automatically ready to connect to the MacBook Pro via the IEEE1394 cable. This will give me an added ability to midi the information into the DAW I have (Studio One Artist 3). But I'm not familiar with firewire. Someone said that all XF's don't come equipped with the firewire port, but that the XF8 does. Is that true or false?

And if it's true, what's the pin configuration for the cable. I've seen both 4 and 6 pin.....

Thanks

If you purchase a Motif XF8 between now and March 31, 2016 here in the USA, you get the Motif XF Fully Loaded Please read through this REBATE - the fulfillment comes direct from Yamaha. So if you purchase your Motif XF from Sam Ash, you can then register with Yamaha through the link above and we'll send you the FULLY LOADED kit!!!

This means you get (2) 1GB FLASH expansion boards and the FW16E (Firewire Expansion board) free; plus a ton of content.

What you would need to connect your Motif XF8 to your Macbook Pro is a standard 6-pin to 9-pin FW cable and a Thunderbolt-to-FW adapter

Two facts:
Your MacBook Pro has a Thunderbolt port.
Your Motif XF's FW16E has a 6-pin FW port.

What will make this connection:
You need a cable from "6-pin" (sometimes called 400) to "9-pin" (also called 800). Get the length you need.
You need an Apple adapter to take the 9-pin and fit it to your MacBook's Thunderbolt port.

Links to example solution:
_ Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
_ FireWire 800>400; 9-pin to 6-pin Cable
