Edit: I know it's not possible to do sidechain within MOTIF XF, that's why I'm asking about the possibility in a DAW or a sound module (MainStage for example).
Is it possible to create the sidechain effect by using fw16e card in motif combined with a DAW or a sound module? Let's say If I route the drumkits into 1 or 2 channels and the rest of instruments through others and In DAW I set up the inputs, I want to side chain them together. Is it possible to get the sidechained output from MOTIF XF? Can you please explain in details.
I appreciate if someone can help me with this! I have considered buying FW16E but need to make sure the FW16E hardware is capable of doing it (not MOTIF XF).
Not sure where you are getting your specifications. There is no side chain capability within Motif XF.
I failed to describe the scenario properly again 😀
I know it's not possible to do side chain in MOTIF Phil but I can do sidechain compression in a DAW such as Logic Pro or even in MainStage .
What I can do with MOTIF XF:
1- Install the FWE16
2- Setup the 16 outputs to DAW in MOTIF XF. For example 2 channels (1-2) for drumkits and 2 channel (3-4) for some synth or pad VOICE and 2 channels for the rest of the VOICEs (5-6).
3- Setup the MainStage, let's say I create add channel Strips to receive the MOTIF XF outputs as audio input sources (channels 1 through 6).
4- SideChain them inside MainStage using a simple method like the following:
How to do Sidechain in MainStage or Logic Pro
5- Now my question is:
Am I able to get the output generated in MainStage back to MOTIF XF output? In other words, is it possible to monitor the DAW's out put (If I put it into words correctly)? If I can monitor it back, it means I can directly hook the monitoring output signal to the speakers or the mixer. In MOX I could monitor live.
I'm afraid you are going to have to "put it in words correctly"... I am not a Mainstage tech.
Pretty difficult indeed when I don't have the hardware yet 😀
Please imagine the sidechain compression process in Cubase. The compression in Cubase gets two stereo inputs (from an stereo bus in the mixer I guess) and outputs a stereo audio.
What I'm asking is if it's possible to send let say 2 stereo channels from FW16E on MOTIF to Cubase and sidechain them in Cubase and then send/monitor the result back from FW16E in realtime in a live performance? This requires Cubase to send the sidechained signal back to FW16E. Sidechain is done in DAW, it's just the processed audio that should be sent back to FW16E.
If you say you could do it the MOX I cannot see why, with more return options in the XF w/FW16E, should be a piece of cake. There are three stereo audio returns from the computer to the XF via FW.
