Hello,

I've recently purchased an XF8 for my church and several members of our band are not fluent in all keys. The ability to transpose quickly IS A MUST!!!!

Q) Does the Motif XF8 have the ability to "assign" a quick reference button that allows us to transpose (either a half, or whole step) to a higher key quickly during Praise & Worship without having to stop and program the board?

Most of us are familiar with the Es or MO8, which has a transpose button. I think I should've done more homework on the exact features needed prior to purchase because the XF8 can be a large learning curve for the novice player....

Please help ASAP as we're lost without this majorly important feature. Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

You can simply put the same Voice in adjacent PARTS of a SONG/PATTERN MIXING setup... each NOTE SHIFTED to the key you wish to use.
For example, say you are using the Full Concert Grand piano Voice... Place it in several Parts of the same Mixing setup, then go to:
[EDIT]
Press [1] to select Part 1
Press [F4] TONE
Press [SF1] TUNE
NOTE SHIFT the Part to the key you want
Repeat for Part 2, 3, 4 for as many as you need.
Each increment is a half step.

Store Part 1 as normal
Part 2 up a semitone
Part 3 down a semitone... Or however you require.

Name and store the setup.

Alternate methods include simply programming the offset tuning as you require in VOICE mode and store several Voices to the User bank locations, naming them so you know how they are offset. It's not that difficult. Giving up on a better keyboard because it is not easy would be just wrong. The top of the line keyboard does not have the "capo" feature, but certainly is programmable so if you need to 'cheat', learn to program it to do what you need.

Yamaha, would you please tell me how do I achieve this with Montage..? I've been looking all over the place to try to save a performance (instrument) in a different key (eg. -3 semitones) as an individual performance.. but I can't find where to adjust that.. I found in the performance's general page, "note shift".. and it's in semitone.. changed that.. saved that.. but that didn't make the perfomance change semitone after saving it at the LIve Set screen.. I guess that "note shift" is only for "audition"..

Anyhow, pls kindly show me the ropes of how to change an individual performance / instrument sound to a changed key and save that on the Live Set screen..
For Yamaha Montage..

And if the firmware later on can let us choose whether that octave/transpose button can be switched around, that'd be wonderful..
Like if we can choose to have as for octave change.. and just the button can become for transpose..

Thanks!

You can go to the utility main screen and quickly change the global tune of the entire board - it takes maybe 2-3 seconds depending on proficiency. I think its the 2nd or 3rd parameter from the top of the screen (not looking at board right now). I do this on bands that play 1/2 step down, as I will practice to mp3 at standard tune, then in a quick flick I tune to the band for live performance.

For one or two songs they will play a full step down, i program that into the Performance for that song - e.g. if we play 95% 1/2 step down, I'l program the outlier song Performance an additional 1/2 step down to get overall 1 step down. make sense?

There are alot of options, actually.
