Hi,
I´m planning to organize my flash board 1 and I would be glad for some support before doing it:
1. How can I change the order of waveforms on the flash memory board? I would need them to be in a certain order.
2. Would the voices who "look" for their waveforms (while loading new again) still find their waveforms when I change the order of waveforms first?
(I guess they wouldn´t?!)
Thank you for support,
Oliver
The Motif XF automatically places the Waveforms on the Flash Board and creates a catalog that keeps track of where they are. When data is installed to the Flash Board Waveforms occupy the lowest numbered empty location.
There is software (John Melas Waveform Editor) that allows you to customize your order while maintaining the relationships. You could do it manually but depending on the number of Waveforms this may not be practical.
Forgive me, but why do you need them in a specific order?
I need that specific order because I have a third party library here that requires it.
Otherwise the libraries voices wouldn´t find their waveforms.
Why not? I've never heard of such a thing!
It´s because this library pack works with the free CP1 and the s700 samples and I already have them on my flashboard...
Hi Oliver,
I guess you're talking about this product. I don't have it personally; but flashboard handling seems to be very easy. Just follow the PDF instructions provided with it, and you'll be fine.
Btw., this product is also sold at the Motifator shop. However, this shop is currently classified as being "dangerous" by Symantec's Norton Security. Strange...
One very important fact that came to my mind and which I'd like to mention here at this point:
Please avoid using Melas Waveform Editor in general whenever trying to edit Yamaha's "original" libraries. This includes your indicated CP1 and S700 Piano libraries, but in also applies to other Yamaha-produced libraries like Chick's Mark V. The reason is that these libraries may include compressed waveforms which are coded in a proprietary Yamaha format like "WXC" or "LPC". Melas Waveform editor simply cannot handle these formats correctly, only the Motifs will. Flashing any "Melas-edited" waveform file of this kind back to your Motif may either scramble your sounds or at least degrade them digitally so they don't match anymore with the originals. For example, even a simple "rename" in Melas Waveform Editor for one of such waveforms and loading it back will result in an "altered" sound. Trust me, I tested that out already very carefully. I guess that mechanism was intentionally introduced by Yamaha in order to prevent any external tools from manipulating copyrighted Yamaha waveforms by rendering them unusable. That's why you should only let the Motif save and reload these waveforms - no exteral tools should be used in that case. However, this does not apply to other libraries which have no compressed/coded waveforms.
Hi Martin,
thank you for your warning! I have already done it by formatting the flashboard. It all went out very well without any problems.
Thanks again!
